I feel a bit sorry for Justin Fields

Yeah, Justin could use a reset and go to NFL QB school with a good OC and veteran QB to learn from like the Trey Lance situation. Trubisky did the same thing when he left Chicago.

Have you guys watched "A Football Life" with DeSean Jackson? I didn't like him before I watched it, but after, I couldn't stand him even more. Both him and his dad. They both were all about themselves. They showed footage of him in Pop Warner, his dad would stand on the sideline and would threaten his coach with stuff like "If you don't give him the ball more we're going to a different team." You could tell the coach was annoyed by that. I guess his dad is more to blame for him being a total "Me!" type player.

I did not see it tbh, but that would make sense as to how he got that attitude.

Yup, and Fields needs that too. Whether it be here or the very team that he's playing against on Sunday.

I haven't seen it, and that's sad to hear. I'll tell you what really screwed me up, was watching Hard Knocks this year. I've spent a long time hating Aaron Rodgers and I couldn't help but like him after the show. It wasn't just the way he conducted himself and encouraged team mates etc. It was seeing his relationships with old players and coaches during the preseason games. There are a lot of people that genuinely like the guy and I have to wonder how much he's changed vs how much was blown out of proportion.

That said, don't watch it. Lol. I regret seeing him in that light. The desire to hate him for years of punishment doesn't just go away.

Haven't seen Hard Knocks this year, but he seems very likeable when I see his interviews with Pat McAfee.

The Bears were so scarred after failing with Nagy that they over-corrected with hiring Eberflus for defense at the expense of developing their QB. If you're a rebuilding team with a rookie QB, you have to hire an offensive HC who can build a system around the QB. Switch Fields and Jalen Hurts and their careers are completely different right now.

If you hire a defensive HC, even if you get a good OC, if they have a successful offense, that OC is only going to be there for a few years before he leaves for a HC job. Then you're constantly starting over. If you're an offensive HC like McVay, Shanahan, Reid, etc. - it's always going to be your offensive system so you can afford to lose assistants and keep the same thing going for the QB.

Yes I'm pretty disgusted with my new found respect for the man. I advise all my Cowboy brothers to avoid the show. I did enjoy his segment on Barstool sports, but didn't expect Hard Knocks. Lol

If you mean Pat McAfee, I do enjoy his show. He's always hilarious. As for Hard Knocks, I don't have HBO anyway.

That sounds about right, and it's a shame. I'm not sure why they can't just go get a coach that can steady a ship. I mean a coach like Jason Garrett can at least get them to some relevance. They will probably get shredded in the playoffs, but he can at least make them relevant.

The Bears just do what they do. Most of their Head Coaches in my lifetime have been "defensive" minded guys. It's in their DNA.

The one time they hired an offensive guy that had some success in this league (Matt Nagy), he inherited Mitch Trubisky from the previous regime when they could have had Mahomes in the first place. And still took them to the playoffs twice.
Would Chicago Mahomes be the KC Mahomes. Obviously, the talent would be the same, but situations and circumstances matter. He got to sit behind an established, veteran QB for a year and have Andy Reid as his coach. Neither would have been in Chicago. The Andy Reid factor is huge.

Exactly, that's a huge piece.

I really thought Fields would take a step this year. He's dynamic on the ground and I believe has the ability to let the ball rip. That said I am confused by what the coaches are trying to do with him this year. He's not running the ball like he was. From the outside looking in they appear to be making him a pocket passer prematurely.
Fields may still yet take a few steps forward this year. One of the surprising things I noticed this off season is how much Fields was being hyped up. The expectation wasn't just for him to take a step this year, but rather take huge leaps in his progression. I didn't understand where those takes were coming from. From what I had seen of his play, he was going to need a few years to really develop into a quality NFL starter if he ever does. He still may if he gets into a better situation than the Bears. It has only been 2 games this season so far, so we will all know a little more about his development at the season progresses. Right now it isn't looking like his 5th year option will be picked up in the next off season.

I think the hype came from his ability to take over on the ground as well as no complimentary players on offense last year. Clearly upgrades don't necessarily equate with success.

I must say. I feel a bit sorry for Justin Fields. There were discussions of him being compared to our QB coming out of college. I thought he looked good coming out of college. It seems clear that he doesn't want to be in Chicago anymore, and I don't blame him. The Bears are absolutely horrible at developing QBs and are clearly clueless about what to do with Fields. They're slowly destroying a QB that I think is a solid QB.

I wonder, and this is meant as support for Dak as well, if there is a way that we can trade for him without giving up a lot. I think it would be spectacular to have a 3 QB trio of Dak, Fields, and Lance. I think Fields could really use the tutoring of Mike McCarthy. I think we would have a situation where we'd have an excellent QB in Dak and two young arms in Fields and Lance. Not only would this benefit us in terms of having QBs on rookie contracts, but it also gives us a chance to have them compete with each other and become possible trade fodder for us later. I think Dak is going to be here for a while, but we'd have two QBs behind him who would back him up well and can be flipped later for a high pick.

I don't know. It's just a thought that I had, but Fields is going to be ruined with the Bears if he actually manages to play out his current deal there. I think he'd be a good backup for us, and, between him and Fields, I think we'd have the best duo of backup QBs, if Mike can rebuild Fields' confidence.
I'm baffled by what Chicago is doing with him. Justin Fields would be an outstanding backup to Jalen Hurts. That's the kind of gameplan he needs. The Cowboys don't run that kind of offense.

A few weeks before the Bears played the Cowboys last year, it looked like they were moving towards an RPO offense. But apparently they abandoned that.

I don't think he'll be in Chicago much longer. I just hope he doesn't go to the Eagles.

A coach like McCarthy would be smart enough to tailor an offense to a player like Fields. That's what Fields needs. A coach that knows how to tailor an offense to a QB.

Yeah, and I don't think Chicago has ever had that coach. I don't know what they're doing over there.

I think BigMac could. But would he do it for a backup QB? It's hard enough maintaining one offense., let alone two different schemes. But if Dak got injured, I guess he'd have to.

We have a similar QB on the roster right now. Lance needs a RPO heavy offense.

Well, yes, and, since Lance needs it and we traded for him, it stands to reason that Fields would be a decent enough fit here.

He is only concerned about his next payday. Usually a qb will make more on their second pay day, but you really want to secure that first one because at least you "set" yourself for life.

IT is the way it is all too often in the NFL. QBs that could be something ruined by being in the wrong place with the wrong coach and GM. The Bears only had a brief period under Ditka when they had it all together. Bluntly speaking they have been as pathetic as the browns overall since the 1970's.
