By turning down the interim head coach job with SD?
The claim is he turned it down because he didn’t want to hurt his chances of getting a permanent gig somewhere, but was that smart, or does it show he wasn’t up to the challenge? Or that he feels he has no connection with the players there?

I mean, without Herbert, he doesn’t have to win. If he merely got them to play hard with a little heart, wouldn’t a little bit of experience help his cause in a year or two?

I think he sees the writing on the wall. They aren't going to hire him full time after the interim gig. He'll be shown the door. SD should just fire him now and save both sides the waste of time.

Side Note - Jerry's "Coaches in Training" don't seem to be panning out anywhere else.

Taking the gig without a qb was probably a losing proposition.

They are followed under the tutelage of the Head Coaches, except on site here...

Agreed, but there’s only a few games left. If he could fire up the players and even make a better showing than Staley’s last outing (pretty easy), wouldn’t that tiny bit of experience be better than none? Won’t most building teams see a guy with zero head coaching experience as afraid to step up to a challenge for the experience? When was the last time a coach already with a team turned down the interim job? The guy with the Raiders did it with his starting QB injured and is impressing people.

Without Hebert, chargers are a clown show.

Really dumb IMO. Must know the backup sucks

You look at the talemt on the chargers and you would think they could be contenders.

I agree with you. It makes sense. Even if he knows Belichick might be coaching them next year. If you believe that rumor. But regardless of that, if he could get a spark out of that team, any little spark, it would be to his benefit going forward. Refusing it makes the league think he doesn't want to be a head coach.

Moore is over rated by this board
I don’t think he will make a great HC

Going to san diego looked so good going into season because of hebert and other offensive and defensive talent. That kind of backfired.

What's that old saying about better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt? I think Moore knows that if he takes the interim job here it will be an abject failure and it will tarnish his star perhaps irreparably. If he just stays as OC and is able to put up at least decent offensive numbers some team is bound to still think he's HC material.

That has to be his mindset. He's not willing to take the all or nothing approach.

Going to San Diego always looks good. Wonderful weather there.. but the Chargers play in L.A. now, about a hundred miles north.

Haven't seen that. You have a link about Moore turning it down?

Smart move if he did. San Diego isn't going 4-1 with their backup QB like Dallas did. They may not even win another one.

And seems like interim coaches always get screwed anyways no matter how good their record.

I got to say I really don't care what Kellen Moore does I'm just glad he's not here anymore because I didn't like the way he coached our offense and obviously he didn't set the world on fire with the chargers either so I'm pretty happy to just let him seek his fortune and ignore his career if nobody minds
