What "picks" would Dallas get for Lance?
Currently no higher than a 3rd. But probably at best a 4th/5th and that depends on how much teams are desperate for a young starting QB and how much potential they believe Lance to have. He could help himself out by working on his game in the offseason and then stepping up to play well during the preseason. And if he gets some regular season play and balls out there might be able to get traded for a higher draft pick. If the Cowboys decide to hang onto him for another season and trade him next season because they're looking to get Dak's replacement fresh out of the draft.

Memo from Jerry Jones to other teams: "The only way you'll get Trey Lance is from my cold dead hands!"

He would then schedule his next wellness checkup with his doctor.

do you have a source for this? not saying it's untrue, i've just heard it and never saw it substantiated.
Just google or look into Shanahan's surprised(elated reaction) to Jerry's offer for Trey Lance.

If they re-sign Dak, then it couldn't hurt to see if any team can at least comp Dallas a pick that they lost.
I would be happy trading Lance and giving away a 7th round pick for nothing, just to get the $5.3M back in cap space.

Trey Lance has now been a part of 2 bad trades.

why trade him move him up to the number 2, keep dak, let him learn, he'll be ready, correct, a plan like roger and love and even romo were. Waiting in the wings..

If this rumor is true and the Cowboys are offered draft capital for Trey Lance, what would you prefer the front office do?

Keep Trey Lance and see what we can get out of him and see what he has to find out whether or not he can realistically be the type of starter to get the Cowboys to the NFC Championship game and beyond? And keep him as backup in case Dak stinks it up in the regular season.

Or trade him for picks and use these picks to help rebuild, which would include using those draft picks to select a QB in the 2025 draft in the case Dak isn't the Cowboys QB beyond the 2024 season

Trade Trey (our possible future stud QB) and extend our current QB for 300 million for 5 years.

But that strategy has already been tried with Lance and his previous team was surprised to get even a 4th round pick. What's supposed to change the second time around? And what team is going to convince itself that the *third* time is actually the charm?
Well he gets a whole offseason with different coaches, is only 23 and came into the NFL with limited football experience. If he plays well perhaps teams think he's developing and become more interested. However, unless he actually played in the regular season its hard to imagine him having a chance to significantly increase what teams are willing to trade. Maybe someone becomes willing to send a 3rd, who knows.

How about we keep Trey Lance and trade Dak. Lance could go 1-16 and still achieve what Dak's achieved.
nice try troll, if you are ok with 1-16 vs 3 straight playoff appearances 36 wins and 2 division tiles , you have big issues and need to move on from following any team sports.. cornhole is your deal..a real person to blame, yourself..its a team game but no one wants a actual losing team because fans like you think the playoffs are bad!! just wow..

You can always tell when a team ships off its top 5 overall pick two years ago for a 4th rounder that the market for the player will be huge the next year.

I'd trade Lance, Gallup, 2024 1st round pick, 2025 1st and 4th round picks and cash to Chicago for their 2024 1st round pick. Then I'd select Jayden Daniels of LSU. Everything about his talent and work ethic says do it. It's not a rebuild. He will be nothing short of dynamic and give the Cowboys new life almost immediately. It would be easy to build a team around him just like we did with Troy. Dak and Trey just ain't it.

Now, back to reality, I'm sure our GM and Director of Player Personnel are already on it.

I would showcase the heck out of Lance in preseason. Just put Prescott in a planetarium and have him point at the constellations all summer. We need to know what we have in him.

If they could have gotten more than a 4th round pick then why didn’t they make the trade? Shanahan said the 4th rounder was a little better than they anticipated. It was the best they could get.

“Then, the Cowboys called, and owner Jerry Jones said they wanted Lance so badly they weren’t hanging up the phone. The fourth-rounder Dallas offered San Francisco was a “little better than we anticipated,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. Shanahan said multiple teams were interested in Lance.”

This isnt madden. He has to agree to be traded. He seems like the kinda guy that would sit on the bench and collect his money.
That’s fine too.

Bench, trade, let Dak sit at home and pout and roll with Lance.

I’m tired of being right about Dak and that’s saying something because I sure do like being right. It’s getting old though. Even I’m annoyed with how embarrassing it is that me, just a lowly fan, can’t stop predicting dead on how every season with Dak will end.

My thought is this. If Dak is re-signed he'll be the starter for at least 3 more years. Rush is a fine backup who can be kept being re-signed for cheap.

Lance has this year at 5.3mil and then is an UFA. He may just want to bounce in 2025 for a chance to start or at least be in a training camp battle for a team with no defined starter at QB. So, good chance they lose him for nothing.

To be fair. You are kind of doing what Stephen A does and betting the field against the Cowboys.

LOL
