He's got the talent. He looked the part behind Pollard last season. Even looked better than Pollard most of the time in the first half of the season.

It's just a matter of him staying healthy.

Zeke or whoever will be RB2 can play the role Rico played last year.

No excuses. The offensive line run game appears to be upgraded with Tyler B and Tyron off the team. Holes should be there. Teams certainly won’t put 8 in the box.

.....and Pollard looked better than Zeke. Randle looked better than Murray. Hamrick looked better than Smith. The names change but not the results. Rico was ok, but health is an issue and he never popped off of the screen like you would expect from an aspiring RB1. This is a bad idea

The problem is he can't stay healthy.

Remember it's only April and the season opener is in September.
All that's left is draft spares (UDFA), veteran castaways from TC cuts, and trades, meaning we'd have to give away draft assets for a guy that has a year or two left on his rookie contract, or a veteran that already has significant wear and tear. I get where you're coming from but this position has been severely mismanaged since Zeke's holdout, and I'm afraid we'll be seeing that translate to the field for an otherwise pretty solid team.

Dowdle is an average RB and is not a starting caliber NFL RB. He had a few nice plays last season because he was kept fresh, taking over the role Pollard had the previous seasons. Dowdle only had 89 carries so he had fresh legs all of last season. If we have to start him he’ll end up not being as effective. Our RB situation is about as bleak as I can remember. We just have to hope the players we added on the OL improves our run blocking.

We need to hit on a RB in FA or make a trade

All the good RBs in free agency are gone. If we trade for a back it won’t happen until during the regular season. If our running game struggles that’s when we may look to trade for one.
