If Dak is all powerful why hasn’t he “made” Jerry pay him what he wants already
:huh:He can't until his current contract ends which is in March 2025. At the time, Jerry has two options, reach an agreement or Dak will test the open market. It's pretty simple V.........

So if the $40 million was not owed to Dak in 2025, the Cowboys would have $119 million available in cap space?
No. On OTC in 2025 Dallas has 79 million in cap space with Prescott.

If Dallas released Prescott it would still have 79 million in cap space but 40 million would now be dead money and no Prescott.

If Dallas made Prescott a June 1st cut they would save 14 million in dead money in 2025 but that would be rolled over to 2026.

Why would anyone want to get rid of an All Pro QB?
Only the anti Dak crew on the board. One of them wanted to draft a quarterback in every round thinking we might get lucky and get the next Mahomes. Hopefully he will change his allegiance to the Patriots. They have a toolsy top 3 pick along with a 5th rounder with the strongest arm in the draft. The Patriots are trying to win.

There are always options. There is usually leverage on both sides. Thats all I’m saying.

keep seeing all these scenarios of his contract going forward.......can he just play out this year on his current contract and than we we can assess if we want to extend him or...are we stuck extending him or face cap hell?.......please explain
We have set ourselves up not to have to extend him. FA is mostly over and we won't need a large amount of cap space for whatever scrubs they sign.

lol. Thats incorrect. If Dak is all powerful why hasn’t he “made” Jerry pay him what he wants already? It’s because Dak has no power over that.
Or, more sensibly considered, he’s confident enough in his skills as an NFL quarterback to be willing to accept the best offer for his services. Unlike Cowboys fans, Dak knows there are 31 other teams in the NFL. Cowboys fans think playing for the Cowboys is special as opposed to the other 31 teams. That’s a fan’s perspective. Dak will accept the offer he likes the most. That’s a professional football players perspective. Consider that Dak may have already informed his representation that he prefers to play out his current contract and no longer be a member of the Dallas Cowboys. I know that’s a tough pill to swallow for any Cowboys fan, but it is not inconceivable the Dak Prescott wants to get away from the Dallas franchise. He may not get everything he wants on his next deal, but he’s going to be paid an exorbitant amount of money to play quarterback in the NFL for somebody.

Agreed on not overpaying him, but Dak isn't the problem.
His cap hit is the problem, he isn't worth dang near a quarter of the cap. And he is greedy. The 4 yr deal instead of the 5 yr deal really showed me who he was. There is sooo many financial perks that comes with being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys , why aren't you signing a more cap friendly deal? Truth is it far more sensible to cut ties and find a cheaper replacement.

Let time show us how that works out for him. Reality is he is slightly above average QB that fell into an ideal situation. He probably will get paid, but he won't be worth it.

Let's say they just don't extend his contract but don't release him either. Wouldn't he then just become an UFA and we wouldn't take a cap hit in 2025? If yes, why not follow this route?

Dak will count $40M next year unless he is extended.

He has a no trade clause and no franchise clause. The options are let him play out his contract and try to re-sign or go for an extension sometime this year. Maybe he would agree to a trade but it's not in his best interest and the Cowboys will eat a big cap hit.
Obviously no one wanted to trade for Dak before the draft.

We could have used those picks. 8)

We still need more cap space.

The team is in the red.

Either someone gets a June 1 cut, or we start extending contracts?

With the 40 million dollar hit for Prescott Dallas still has 79 million in cap space in 2025.

Make Prescott a June 1st cut and Dallas would save 14 million in cap space. If Dallas chose this option they would have 93 million in cap space.

Dallas could sign Lamb and Parsons and still have plenty of cap space to do anything they want.

Cap wise Dallas is in great shape in the upcoming future. Moving on from Prescott would not be the cap disaster that most portray it to be.
That is not true and your numbers are pure eyewash.

Right now for the 2025 season we have only 40 players under contract. Players with a void year (they wont play for us anymore) are Prescott, DFlaw, Zack Martin and Cooks. You have to replace those positions.

Why do you think we will use this year to clean most of our depts ? Because we are in such a good shape ?

Seriously i understand that you are trying to keep hope up. But please be real.
