DT has been an issue for years and i dont see it solved uness of course mazi makes a jump this year. Osa is a first half of the season guy and fades down the stetch.I would like to see where Fehoko fits in.Gholston is meh!

DT. But that doesn't mean RB isn't important. Having a great running game will keep the defense off the field. It doesn't matter. Both are real important.

I think the change to Zim will help the DT's stop the run so I am more concerned about RB. But they are the weak spots.

I'm most excited about how the fixed the OL. If Garett was the HC those all would have been first round picks.

Agree. Both are issues but I do think a more structured defense will help some against the run.

At the end of the day, you need the horses to get it done.

DT, easily.

Will Mazi show improvement? Will Osa put it together for a full season?
I have no expectations for Rogers this year, being a 7th rounder, but hey if he can rotate in and not be awful, then great.

Carl Davis seems to be a journeyman big dude, who spent the entire 2023 season on the PS between Seattle and Dallas. How much is left there when he doesn't get claimed at all for a 53 man roster?

Forget if Fehoko or Gholston may be another 3 tech/inside rusher. But it seems barren there.

I was happy to hear all the talk about Zimmer beefing up the DL. If he is considering playing a 295lb guy at NT I'll withdraw that happiness...
I hear that. And yet. I'm quite sure Zimmer himself realizes the counterintuitive nature of his conclusion. So, if he would advocate for Lynch, Zimmer gets my benefit of a doubt.

Both are tweeners that Quinn wanted to play inside. Time is running out for Gholston.

No offense, but that's a pretty light argument there...

RB.
Zimmer and his style of defense, and having real LB's now to play will help the run defesne. I expect Mazi to take a big leap forward and be better.

As much as I love Zeke returning. And what looks to be a better OL will help. But they still need that lead RB or a RB capable of playing well enough. That he and Zeke and Dowdle will be a 1, 2, 3 punch type of production.

what bothers me most is this:

what the playoffs made painfully obvious was that dallas’ achilles heel was its inability to run the ball when it really had to, and to stop the run when it really had to.

that was about the o-line and the running backs, and the interior defensive line and linebackers.

in free agency and the draft, we got mixed results with regard to o-line and linebackers, and we got no better or worse at running back and defensive tackle.

that’s malpractice.

Oddly I'm more worried about RB. I think a scheme change and better health at LB can help improve the run game by default. Mazi should be sticking inside more and not out at 3/4T. DTs got all the blame last year, and some of that deserved, but I think the last couple years the biggest flaws with the run defense have been outside with DEs rushing without making reads, undersized LB that didn't stand a chance, etc....the Cowboys got abused physically in the run game because they didn't have a chance schematically when they fell behind. They didn't have the horses after just a few injuries, and while I wish they had done more to beef up the run defense going to a Zimmer led defense instead of the DQ style of playing strictly to force negative plays should help this area.

I love what the Cowboys did in the draft to address the Oline needs, and they should have some seriously good camp battles that'll bring out the best in guys, but if they don't acquire another RB to split reps with Zeke I don't think we really see the rewards from that. The Cowboys are a talented team with some obvious roster flaws. The best way to cover up some of those flaws is with the ability to run the football and control the clock. It doesnt take a ton of money to acquire a league average back and the Cowboys failed to do so....at least so far.

Fehoko is way too straightlinish, something Jerry ignores year after year after year. Mazi may be also. Gholston is a backup/rotational guy, same thing Osa should be.

Desperately need a top 5 starter at the 3.

Easily DT. Trash DT's and you can't stop the run aka look at how we got ran on at will last year. Also better hope a starter does not get injured. We have plenty of time between now and the season start but we have to get some better talent at DT. We can get by with Zeke and the others at RB for now. But pay close attention to who gets cut doing roster cut down. That is what we call FA 2.0.
