Cargo Ship strikes Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge causing great collapse

still shocked that the insurance company for the owners of the ship are not paying for this; instead the taxpayers as always get the shaft.

..sounds like the driver was listening to Micah's podcast. ;)..

I just read that the contract for the bridge re-build has been executed. Work will commence in 2025 with an estimated completion date in mid-2028. The estimated costs are $1.5 billion

Is this confirmed? What was their reasoning?
The US Government has said the taxpayers will foot the entire bill
now supposedly there are lawsuits about to be filled to bill the owner/insurance company but that is apparently going to be fought tooth and nail and thus is years in court.
and there is no indication that when that finally happens if it does that the money will actually be used to reimburse the US taxpayers
anyway that is the latest I could find

So almost 5 years all in to build a bridge. We are definitely not near our peak playing shape. During WWII the US produced 205 planes, armored vehicles 68 and ships 3 PER DAY! Hell, China has built the world’s longest bridge in 4 years, 9 miles over water and 93 miles over land. Someone needs to crack the whip on the project!

But what's the quality of China's bridge? They tend to skimp a lot.

That is definitely the narrative No doubt. If their quality is so bad then why are we adding 100% tariffs to their EV’s that are super cheap. Evidently according to reviews they are pretty dam good. Seems lately we are afraid of competition. As most people know competition brings out the best in everyone.

All western countries drown in bureaucracy, overblown Planning procedures, high standards for Occupational safety measures and work time restrictions. While they aren't necessarily all bad things, they make you slow.

People in the 40s didn't have that. Was their life worse because of it? Well it wasn't as comfortable, that much is certain. Would I want that back? Dunno, I guess not. But we should take a closer look and how some things were done in those days. Especially planning procedures and bureaucracy over here kill me in my job.

It took 5 years to build the Hoover dam in the 30's, and it took twice as long to build the visitor center. It was completed in 1995. The amount of bureaucracy and laws/regulations you have to go through to do any kind of project for the government is mind numbing. I speak of 20+ years as a project manager and my customers were 95% government projects. I had to deal with it everyday.

China doesn't have to deal with those kinds of obstacles. You can build a lot of things quicker if you're not restrained by the government.

You're talking non union work forces. Us union guys have two speeds, slow and off.

in this day and age if anything gets built on time and on budget and is quality work, Men from Mars did it.
