The last few years have had some epic races for Defensive Player of the Year, and we should expect no different in 2024 with a host of pass rushers given a good shot to win the award.
Myles Garrett took home Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2023, the leading man on the vaunted Browns defense, and he’s the second choice this season to repeat in 2024, behind last year's contender Micah Parsons of the Cowboys.
Those two are far from the only players at the top of the oddsboard. T.J. Watt, Nick Bosa, and Maxx Crosby are all at +1000 or short, making for five games at the top of the list with short odds.
Here’s the early odds for what’s expected to be a crowded race for DPOY this season.

:hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :clap::clap:I'm surprised so many well-respected posters don't see or mention this. I actually compared Parsons's postseason stats against the best current and former great players ( a few HOFers ). Even to my surprise, his numbers were right there when averaged out per game. What's getting lost is that it's every OC's goal to neutralize or take out their opponent's best defensive players during the postseason but it creates opportunities for other players. He was a top DPOY voter, so obviously his 17 regular season games were a major reason why were in the playoffs but let's ignore that and trade him........crazy.

Here is my take on this .......IF we had a progressive GM who was willing to spend serious money to bring quality outside free agents, I would worry a bit about paying or trying to keep some of our players but WE DON'T. EVEN when a bunch of the players are on rookie deals we don't do a damn thing with extra cap space. You draft players in the hope they will develop in the league best at their positions and in many cases you get them for pennies 2-3 years. It's why I have no issues with players getting their market value......it's not their fault the team didn't take advantage of their rookie deal.
 
Want to see #11 DPOY second half of the season. Either accept he’s an undersized DE and play him as such, or change to a 3-4.

T.J. Watt has 6 solo tackles, 2 assists, 1.0 sack and 1 fumble recovery in 3 games in the playoffs in his career.

Yes and even if you add a 4th games stats onto that it doesn't move the needle at all. They would have the same number of solo tackles, Parsons with more combined still (by a healthy margin), and the other numbers are all so low its impossible to really divide them up into 1/3s. They have the same playoff numbers no matter how you slice it.

Yes and that is why I would not break the bank for Watt either.
 
To a degree, it's going to depend on how they use him.

Then you have a defense that is not going to be a reason you win and you are hoping the offense can carry. Building a great defense for the playoffs is about two things: having elite difference making players and not having holes at the rest of the positions so that teams cannot scheme around those players. Its okay to not want to build a great defense but if you arent signing the elite top 5 players, then you are saying you hope to win with a mediocre at best defense which is doable but very difficult.

No I want players that produce in the playoffs ....... I have not given up on Parsons and want to see if Quinn was just hanging him out to dry ....... but as of right now I am not making him the highest defensive player in the league.

Then you want a player on defense that does not exist on any team currently as there is not a single team in the NFL that has a player that when facing playoff level competition can produce without any real supporting cast. That is what your standard is though. Any good team will be able to take away your teams best pass rusher. The reason that still makes them a good investment is that the resources they are putting into doing that opens up opportunities for the rest of the defense to shine. The problem is if the rest of your defense is filled with holes then what it means is that the offense going to win their matchups and dominate.

This is why it won’t happen.

Dak would be the highest paid offensive player ever.

Parsons would be the highest paid non-qb ever.

Lamb would be the 2nd highest paid non-qb ever.

It is not feasible to put a competitive roster together with 3 guys taking over 50% of the cap.

There’s a clear odd man out.

Tank being the supporting cast actually strengthens the argument. You basically went "Parsons has a supporting cast. Look at the good run stuffer but pass rusher on the DLine and the top 15 corner. That surely is enough." You made my argument for me so you are right that there is no need to continue. It was fun engaging with someone with a low football IQ though and I did learn plenty from you in terms of how people with a low football IQ think.
