What really need to be done, or can be done to solve this issue for once? Is it a lack of discipline, lack of focus, or something else. I know they had several themselves, but this is about the Cowboys! We've got to get better at limiting penalties. Please give your thoughts if you can!!

1st game as the entire team on both sides of the ball played together.
Not an excuse, as most can be corrected. But none was devastating except for MM's clock management and screws Aubry out of a 66 NFLrecord tying FG. But it was not costly as to a difference in the game.

A holding call brought back a big play. I do not want to say I will take it, because 11 is way too many. In another game, those could be detrimental. But since we had a big lead and won, it does not seem bad for the 1st game. But yet it is bad.

How did I do on my thoughts?

you started off harsh, but walked it back. I think you're getting too soft on me, @big dog cowboy he would never do me this way, he'd straight TRASH my thoughts!! Lol, I hear ya though, it's an issue, wasn't as big in this game due to the circumstances of their inept offense, but in another game these 11 for 85 could really really hurt!! It's a game of yards, we need every yard we can get!!

I am still on 1st cup of coffee, and eyes are still trying to focus, as allergies are in full force.
Give me an hour.

Neighbor said she's going through the same thing, get well soon, I NEED you at full force!! In fact, reality said he doesn't need you today, take the DAY off!!!! I got this!!!! lol (Blog is safe in my hands!!!)

Cowboys have had issues with penalties for a long time now. Even before McCarthy came here. Evidently, these penalties cannot be fixed as Coach Mike has said he was working on that...it's been 5 years now, and we still are having penalty issues!! Maybe it's because there is a lack of accountability. I have no idea.

It's week 1. Using this as the baseline, I will look for better penalty stats in the future.

lol as baseline to what, as @maryquality said it's been an issue for years, and from what it looks like it's leading down that way. Can things change, yes, but it isn't looking bright

3 of our penalties were on STs. Doesn't it seem like we have more STs penalties than most teams?
I swear every time we get a decent return there is a flag. When Turpin took that one to the house, I was just sitting there waiting for yellow laundry to fly. Obviously glad it did not, but it does seem to be an issue.

Totally agree!!!!

1. An imaginary line or standard by which things are measured or compared.

I expect to see the penalty issue to improve from week 1. We'll see.

It seems that way, but I don't know if other teams experience this. It just gets frustrating that with MOST of our kick/punt returns, there is a doggone flag.

Was surprised that no penalty flag flew on that too. It has been our vein of existence that almost every big play comes back. I am happy for the ST and team that it wasn't brought back.

The penalty problem continues but the team overcame them Sunday. Still have a long way to go.

It’s interesting - not all penalties are equally damaging. I divide penalties into two categories: Mental penalties and physical penalties:

Mental Penalties - the easiest to fix because it only requires mental focus. THIS is where coaches need to hold players accountable. Like false starts, lining up offsides, late hits, roughing the kicker. Those are a complete mental lapse.

Physical penalties are harder avoid like offensive and defensive holding, blocks in the back in STs.
