Some Big Issues I See

1. I think a big problem we have with our running game, (edge running), and screens, (especially WR screens), is that our receivers are not good 1 on 1 blockers against DB’s. I’ve seen WR screens attempted where the WR is in position to block the db closest to the play, and the db always busts through and seems to always make the tackle. They’ve gotta be better at blocking that first guy to give Ceedee or Turpin a chance to get up some speed.

2. Conversely, our DB’s don’t seem to be aggressive, physical tacklers. Wilson hits on pass plays but our DB’s rarely stop runners one on one at first contact and never seem to be able to shed other teams’ WR blocks on screens.

In today’s NFL, WR’s and TE’s have to be physical blockers and DB’s have to be physical 1 on 1 tacklers and be able to shed blocks by WR’s.

I used to rewatch every game at least once….now I no longer bother, but in seeing them in real time I’d tend to agree.

The only thing is this seems like a nitpick thing for a team that is an actual contender for a championship to improve on if they want go all the way. This team isn’t that from what I can see.

If the front office doesn’t take a season seriously, why should I?

Then a rant started but I deleted it as it’s off topic lol……carry on……

Carson is a decent tackler, lewis is, it's diggs!!!!! Wilson he tackles but he makes them AFTER the player has caught the ball, you never see him get there before the ball is caught

This has been a problem since Dez left. But I have some hope that Spann-Ford and Schoonmaker are getting better blocking in the running game, and I think Flournoy will develop into a decent blocker as well. But guys like Turpin, and Cooks will never be blockers and I don't know that Brooks will be either.

Diggs and Hooker are horribly passive against the run. Neither wants contact. Wilson takes bad angles but tries to be physical.

Dallas' WR blocking is whatever - it would look much better if they didn't play in such confined spaces.

The concepts you speak of require players to put the team ahead of themselves. I support your efforts in manifesting these changes and I wish you nothing but the best of luck.

Dowdle comes along really well, as long as he remains healthy enough.

Let's all hope and pray he'll manage to stay healthy as long as possible.

I have to wonder if it will last much longer if he's utilized like a lead back.

Broaddus brought this exact point up with Voch I believe. He said they are 1 WR or TE block from hitting a big run. Pretty much said the blocking from our WRs is pretty poor overall.

Except for the last game they did all these things pretty damn well...

Considering how physical that Pittsburgh team is even with their quarterback but harris is a big ***.. He's hard to tackle. I know at times this team has had those issues,

but I saw a lot of really good screens, I saw a lot of good things on the edges, I saw a team being physical running better ...

so I think you seen all year I might agree with some of that but more recently against the giants and now back-to-back games with the Steelers...I think we've become a lot more physical and we're doing a lot more things on offense with motion and misdirection and I think the screens just were really doing pretty well... what do you mean the screens Rico had a screen for a touchdown against New York wasn't it?

I mean ,I I saw at least four or five different types the last 2 games.

so you can pick apart what you want but my eyes are seeing that those things you're talking about were a problem the 1st three games but the last two games I think they did it very well I think all those things have been improved and we're getting some good players back in the next couple of weeks as well...

Which takes tools out of our tool box. We don't stress defenses enough because of things like this. We don't pop the big play and convert the down nearly as well as other teams. In fact, we too often are stymied or lose yardage.

Another thing that makes you question coaching insisting that these things be done in practice in order to get playing time.

WR blocking and being at the right place at the right time is what we miss when we let Noah Brown walk. Our other wr's suck at blocking and our CB's do suck at getting off WR blocks.

It's going to be a long day vs the Commanders if our DB's don't get more physical. Commanders love those quick screens and then take deep shots.
Diggs do play super soft for his size. Did he play this soft at Alabama?

88 took out TWO on the same play to get Furgy that sideline yards...

My issue is with who the coaches are throwing screens too, CeeDee, Turp, Rico, Luepke are the guys to get the ball too on those plays.

I think we just get better and better throughout the season. Remember how young we are. Offensive line they need to play together for a while.

Big picture issues like self scouting.
To really put on the tape and say to themselves as a staff that the OL left to right of Tyler Smith, Bass, Beebe, Martin and Steele are their best 5.

And that group gives the team the best opportunity to win.

Someone else had already made a good post concerning this.
They need to make a good football decision like this instead of trying to keep some Jerry is a football guy image and concede that his 1st rd. Guyton pick needs more experience/time on the bench observing as the swing tackle this year.

Tyler Smith should be the left tackle going forward. But I think these coaches will cave to HC Jerry's influence.
That's a huge issue to me.

Zeke still getting snaps at this point gets a strong honorable mention as well. And again, another poor Jerry influenced decision I believe. Bob's post saying he needs to go was spot on.

Major issues that I'm not confident McFraud has the balls to eliminate.
