I don't think we will end up with a top 5 pick. I have us in the 6 - 10 range. McMillan is similar to Drake London and Tee Higgins. Higgins is set to command $30 million per year as a free agent. Getting a $30 million player on cost control is huge. He will help us in the red zone which is an area the Cowboys struggle in. I view him as a safe pick. He will be an elite #2 option as a WR.

OT’s, DE’s and pass rushing DT’s also get paid a ton and we need all of those positions as well. I won’t argue we need a WR, but if the Oline and front 7 don’t get drastically better a WR won’t make a bit of difference to our team.

I really like the player and there is most definitely a need for another alpha receiver, but this team has bigger priorities. Cannot win if they continue to be unable to run or stop the run, pretty simple. 1st rd pick has to help either area. No issue taking a day 2 receiver at all, just not in the 1st rd.

If they trade down from 1 and they are picking at 5 or 6 and Tet is on the board. He would be an excellent choice.

With his size and arm length, he is a very special player. He would be an awesome addition to the team. If he is BPA, you take him. He is 3 on my board. I would take him between 4 and 6. I don't see him dropping from 6.

It would depend on who is also there. In my opinion, there is always good depth at the position, but not at DT, especially ones who can rush the passer.

I’m in as long as he’s tests well…hard to tell watching him.

If he’s around 4.52 or under with his size with good short area quickness drills that checks the box for me.

I have Tet at 3 on my board. A good chance he is bpa in my opinion.

I like the player, but a think Graham has a bigger impact to this roster.
I like Graham too. I have him at 5. I'll stick will BPA. I'll go by my board or trade down. It would be real interesting to be on the board at 4 and have Tet, Jeanty and Graham on the board with opportunity to trade down to 6.

So you, wait for it, draft the best player. Regardless of position.

I agree if the value is there but don't reach for positional need. In the 2020 draft pass rusher was a bigger need than WR. They were considering K'Lavon Chaisson as the need pick but Lamb was the BPA. Drafting Chaisson over Lamb would have been a debacle. Reaching for positional need never works out. Mazi Smith, Kelvin Joseph, and Luke Schoonmaker are all recent examples.

He runs a 4.6 40 yd dash. Too slow. We need speed, quickness and height at WR.

He runs faster than that. He is by far the best receiver in the draft. He is a solid top 5 pick and would be a great addition to the Cowboys for many years to come.

Cons:

  • Takes time for him to build up his speed
I think McMillan has solid speed for his size. Many project he will run a sub 4.60 40-yard dash. The issue is his speed doesn't really show up until he is in the middle of his route. This hurts his get-off at the line of scrimmage, and it could hurt his ability to be the consistent deep ball WR teams will want him to develop into.
  • Struggles against press coverage
As you read above, his get-off at the line of scrimmage is an issue, and something NFL defenses could do to make his life even harder is by assigning a defender in press coverage. If you can knock him off his route and make him take even longer to get into the long-developing routes, his team may assign him defenses that could neutralize him as an option in the passing game early in his career.

  • Not a reliable blocker
At his size, you would like to assume you are getting a WR who excels as a blocker in the run game. That hasn't been the story for McMillan, who struggles in that regard. You would like to be able to play your top WRs on all three downs. But early in his career, I could see whichever team drafts him pulling him off the field for run plays while he develops in that area.
