I was dumbfounded watching that unfold. Absolutely, Eberflus was ultimately responsible, but I doubt he expected Williams to waste all the time he did. Yes, he’s a rookie, but he’s certainly been playing QB for a number of years at other levels.

Good firing and good move by Eberflus yesterday to tank the game. When you start the season with a lame duck coach, you risk stuff like that happening. Eberflus was clearly over the job at this point

Brady didn’t start a game until year two. Williams obviously got caught up in the situation and screwed up. However, no excuse for Eberflus to just stand there, watching the clock tick down and not call a TO. It cost him his job.

Well, to be fair, Tom Brady only threw 3 passes in his rookie season.

Yeah the final 30 seconds was really silly clock management. You could have sent the game into OT. That play definitely sums up the bears season.

Jerry won't do it because he is satisfied with mediocrity

Jones may not do it but it will not be because he is satisfied with mediocrity. Jones believes his GM actions do not create mediocrity. Instead, he thinks seasonal mediocre results are a by-product of the people he hires.

He fires (or let contracts expire) people in an attempt to escape mediocrity. Unfortunately, he will never accept he (and his #1 DNA Kid) has always been the root cause of mediocrity and will take the only reasonable and responsible action that will provide the solution.

100% agree. At best, a present, in-season firing will only allow Jerry Jones to backpedal into another Wade Phillips-to-Jason Garrett head coach type transition.
