The Bears had to fire him. That last minute of the game yesterday against the Lions was about as bad as it could have been. But it was not just his fault. Of course he could have avoided it by calling time out leaving him with no Time Outs left, but a lot of that was on Caleb Williams. I said before the draft I would not pick him if I was picking early. He may turn out to be a good QB one day, but I think the road for him will be longer than with some other QBs. He has a lot of skills, I am just no sure he knows how to use them all yet.

It took him forever to line up his team for that final play, then way too long to snap the ball, then it was a long play. That's all on him. He should have gotten them lined up quickly and snapped the ball quickly then thrown some kind of short out route hoping to pick up some yards, run another play, then kick a FG.

Did Caleb Williams get 2 coaches fired his first year in the NFL?

Also, with Eberflus in the FA Coaches available, I like the options Dallas has at DC. Zimmer's defense seems to be coming around too.

Don't fall into that trap.

Eberflus is a quality NFL coach. Head coach? Probably not.

Still it’s amazing how many can master these elaborate schemes but can’t get clock management correct.

Part of the reason I believe that the better head coaches may not be the best coordinators and vice versa.

This was just the straw that broke the camels back

Because with 30 seconds plus left on plus side and you don't call timeout when you see your team unorganized is unacceptable

I was dumbfounded watching that unfold. Absolutely, Eberflus was ultimately responsible, but I doubt he expected Williams to waste all the time he did. Yes, he’s a rookie, but he’s certainly been playing QB for a number of years at other levels.
You have to wonder what was going through Williams' mind there at the end. Was he even aware of the game clock? Was there a called play at the ready? There was some genuine confusion there, and I'm not sure if it was on the field, on the sideline, or both.

Honestly, I've never seen anything like it.

Down 23-20 in lions territory with 36 seconds left and 1 timeout they only got off 1 play and he refused to take a timeout when he saw the offense unorganized
..oh man, costly. Thanks for chiming in.

That was the worst time management I've ever witnessed. In field goal position with a time out and 30 seconds left, and they managed to run only one play.

How is that even possible?

The Hail Mary started his descent and yesterday's complete lack of awareness finished him off.

Eberflus prime example of a position coach not being ready to be a HC . Brian Daboll fits that shoe .

He can be our D-Coordinator next year if we go with an offensive guru for head coach

Bears move on from coach Matt Eberflus!

Before this season, the Chicago Bears had never fired a coach during a season, a fact they were proud of.

They've also never experienced some of the late-game coaching fiascos they've had this season, especially what happened on Thanksgiving with everyone watching.

Eberflus will take a final timeout from the Detroit Lions loss into his next job. A final-minute debacle, in which the Bears let about 25 seconds run off the clock instead of calling a timeout in a 23-20 loss to the Lions, was the end of the Bears' patience. Eberflus met the media Friday morning and was fired shortly after, per multiple reports. It's the first time the Bears have fired a head coach during a season.

This is what accountability looks like.
A foreign concept around these parts.
