Missed the snaps last week vs bengals…
This week‘s snaps and what they show….
  • Cowboys ran 73 plays compared to 55 for panthers.
  • Lots of young guys played…like Matt Waletzko who had 9 snaps at T.
  • Interesting that Chauncey Goldston had the most DL snaps with 49; Odighizhua had 43.
  • Good to see Deron Bland played all 55 snaps.
  • Mazi Smith only had 18 snaps.

Edoga is a lousy tackle
Mazi only having 18 snaps is strange; you should be giving a young DT as many snaps as possible but maybe he got nicked up

The game got out of hand late in the 3rd and basically became a pass-fest for Carolina. I'm sure that had something to do with Mazi not getting as many snaps. If the game were a little closer and having to worry about defending the run, Mazi probably finishes somewhere in the mid 20s for snaps.

I need to go back and look at the snaps Waletzko played. I thought based on very few snaps at LT as a rookie that he was going to develop into at least a decent backup. Then, we moved him over to RT and he struggled. The shoulder injuries have also been a setback.

Both him and Ball have been better than what fans think of them overall when they play certain positions — Ball at RG and Waletzko at LT. Not sure either will ever get a starting shot anywhere, but they could bounce around as backups in this league.

Don't look now, but Schoon isn't a bad player. The Cowboys may have found another solid TE via the draft/UDFA pool.
He stepped up when Ferguson was out so it appears all he may have needed was a chance. I like our tight end group going into next season, including Spann-Ford. One of the few position groups we don't have to address in the draft.

I believe Waletzko was playing LG in trash time just to get him some snaps.

I still wish they'd run more 12 and even 13 personnel and throw Schoon the ball more. Don't think he even got a target vs Carolina.

And yes, I've noticed Schottenheimer has been heavy on the praise for Spann-Ford all year,.

I don't think a lot of Tolbert and I'd rather put one of these TEs on the field than him, at least more often than we have.

I agree. Run more 2 TE packages.
I get Cooks is now back but I'd venture that there's no difference in the passing game between Schoon and Tolbert/Mingo/Brooks whoever is the 3rd receiver.

Only Turpin is worth it, but he's more of a gadget guy right now.
