In my opinion…We are kidding ourselves if we think this team is “close” to being competitive again for a championship. Major changes must happen. When I see people (including our front office) say how great it is that the players didn’t “quit” on the head coach this season, I cringe. Why? Because that’s the minimum professional athletes are supposed to give. To hustle and try hard is the bare minimum. But hustle and “trying hard“ can‘t make up for a lack of talent.

Yesterday in Philly our players didn't stop trying hard - they ran into a roster that is much better constructed, with way more talent at multiple positions. That can make a team with less talent look like they quit. The eagles also have an owner (Jeffrey Lurie) who hired an outstanding football executive in Howie Roseman, who is held accountable for winning playoff games.

Here’s the cold splash of water for us fans as the 2024 season ends: The talent level on this team cannot be fixed with just a coaching or scheme change. In my opinion we must have at the very least two of three major changes happen in order to get back to being a serious contender again. Here are those changes and we need at least 2 of these 3:
  1. Jerry either has to step aside (he won’t) or at the very least bring in a talented NFL executive who can serve as an advisor to JJ and SJ about the cap and roster construction. Look I know Jerry will never surrender as long as he is breathing but he once hired Dan Reeves for a week before Reeves said “I can’t do this” and resigned. If JJ wants to win again he needs help. Hire someone to help!
  2. Hire a head coach that has the ability and authority to change and energize the team’s culture, discipline and scheme. Mike McCarthy has been here 5 seasons and has 1 wild card win to show for it. He’s not a bad HC but I don’t think he is capable of getting us to the next level.
  3. Decide on an aggressive off-season plan that includes what we need to get the cap in better shape, what we need in the draft and also what we can get in free agency that helps us NOW. I’m convinced that JJ and SJ are lazy, flat footed and completely out of their league in how to develop an effective plan to improve. They are insulated from learning what teams are doing to get better.
So can two of these three things happen? All three could happen but it must start with the 82 year old in charge deciding he’s tired of watching his team get trucked and wants to do something real about it.

There is only one solution and only 1....................The team needs to be sold.
As long the Beverly Hillbillies own this team expect very little but hot sauce and no steak!

I actually don't think any of the 3 will happen. Jerry is all about himself, period. He would never hire a HC that is strong. And Jerry hasn't even an inkling of an iota of the comprehension of how to build/sustain teams that are contenders.

Think about it. Why did KC just win 2 super bowls in a row? Because they let Tyreek walk. Would Jerry have ever let Tyreek walk? Ick, hades no. And then, after drafting a DT that failed in the 3rd(Khalen Saunders), they went right back at it and took Karlaftis in the 1st, who is a major interior disruptor. We would never do that.

You are 100% correct on all points. I just have a sliver of hope, thus this post. I keep wondering what Dan Reeves was hired to do over a decade ago that never materialized. Was it to advise? I keep hoping against hope that JJ will realize he needs help.

#1 .......not happening
#2 .......not sure that type of coach is out there. It would have to be someone Jerry has the highest respect for ( Saban, Belichick ). There's rumbling that there may be time for Shanahan and the 49ers to part ways but that's highly unlikely.
#3.........I have hope for this offseason. Two of our leaders ( largest contract holders ) are publically speaking out about changes they wanna see
. We will see if Jerry listen

Same three things Jerry has refused to do or has been incapable of doing for the last 30 years.

This. Winning another Super Bowl is important to Jerry but it is likely not his top priority. Making money off the cowboys and using the cowboys to draw attention to himself is higher on his list of priorities . For example, a casual football wouldn’t know who in the hell jeff Lurie or
Howie Roseman are. Similarly , most people wouldn’t know who the owner and general manager of the chiefs are .However, the cowboys owner , general manager and president constantly gives interviews to espn and other sports media outlets.. Mazi smith is Another good example of the front office’s incompetence. They finally Draft a Nose tackle early only to have him lose thirty pounds and try to become a three tech.

The Cap is fine. The problem with this team ain't the salary cap, it's coaching and scouting/development, both of which are a direct result of Jerruh. So you can boil it down to Jerry being the problem.

Can two of those three things happen? Yes.

Will they? No.
Not a chance any does. The only hope is really a very effective draft and we go get one stud FA to add to DT position. One stud might be something Jerry would do but loading up in FA isn’t happening. That puts a huge burden on the draft and developing players but it is what it is. If we do have a change at HC it’s not gonna be a young, innovative guy. It’s gonna be an older guy who will work cheap on a short term deal or maybe a former OC wanting a HC job. None of us will be happy with who ever comes in. But the real key is last years draft class playing major roles as well as a really good draft class this year. We lack talent at many positions and talent makes a difference. But hitting on 4-5 guys in a single draft is rare and really hard. But it’s our only hope

You might as well start rooting for a different team because that's not going to happen in any of our life times.

Great point Hazey! Here are my comments.
  • Point 1: That is the depressing part that Jerry will likely live another 10-15 years with the best medical care money can buy and Stephen seems likely to be a chip off the old block and continue making 99% of all football decisions after Jerry "sings with the choir eternal" (ref: Monty Python's Parrot sketch).

  • Point 2: There isn't a coach alive that can overcome Jerry making 99% of most head coaching decisions. He hires head coaches who know their contract makes them Jerry's scapegoat and they have no authority while pretending to illusion sake.

  • Point 3: Lazy, flatfooted, incompetent, and completely out of touch with reality due to no accountability. If the Packers total domination in our last wild card home playoff appearance doesn't move the needle, then nothing will and that's the depressing part.
The only thing I'm encouraged about is that very few fans went to training camp to watch Jerry dressed up in his head coaching outfit and I hope this trend as well as declining Cowboy's fan attendance will continue and escalate. Public humiliation though things like these might be the only thing Jerry and fatso will listen to. Perhaps home games will become more and more like home games for opposing teams since DFW is a melting pot for jobs and fans of every team live here.

Thank you for continuing to post these great threads. As long as Jerry and fatso continue with "business as usual", there will always be a place for such criticisms. And don't let the idiots that call you a "hater" for expressing your opinions on an opinions forums as these "fans" are the very ones that continue to buy tickets, jerseys, SWAG, and Gene Jones Jeans! Let the brown bags be plentiful in AT&T stadium for those who choose to go.

We certainly agree that Jerry is THE problem. But I disagree that the “cap is fine”.

The Jones boys need to learn how to make the cap work for them. There are multiple teams that have as big a payroll as we do that find a way to still make other moves.

We have an incompetent FO when it comes to managing the cap.

We already are competitive. This has been an atrocious year and we still have 7 or 8 games. It's not competitive. It's contender.

I don't know how you contend with a fake GM, a fake VP of Personnel, an emasculated Head Coach and a fake QB.

Bobhaze pretty much summarizes it here. But I will add that even though there are better coaches out there, I still believe that McCarthy is the best the Jones Klan can do. We are stuck with coaches who flamed out elsewhere and stuck with coaches that are past their prime.
