Coaching Staff that should have been

Head Coach Dan Quinn
Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore

McCarthy should have been fired after the Green Bay game. JJ waited a year too long. It was actually shocking that Dallas didn't fire him immediately. This was both simple and easy. Just promote Quinn to head coach.

Likewise, the ouster of Kellen Moore was a bizarre move. His offense was second in scoring in the entire NFL during his tenure, and one year he had both the highest scoring and highest yardage offense in the league. Dallas lost a respected OC just to please McCarthy, who was gone a short time later. Dallas got this backwards.

By simply retaining KM, and firing MM when they should have, Dallas could be sitting here with a pretty solid coaching staff with Quinn at head coach and Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator. This combination absolutely crushes any of the possibilities being debated now.

I don't remember the timelines last year, but did DQ even try to get KM to go to Washington?

I also sort of struggle with the idea that the Green Bay game was a fireable offense for McCarthy, but we would actually promote DQ after that disaster?

The "blame" for the Green Bay game has been debated here (ad nauseum?). I'm in the blame Dak camp.

I do think the Quinn/Moore combo was a real possibility though, and beats the candidates being discussed now.

It was 100% a failure of the players. They didn't even try. What are the coaches supposed to do when the players refuse to try?

Depends on one's perspective. My view is that game was over by halftime, and the reason was not the defense.
you watched that game? and the reason was not the defense? I mean sure it wasn't soley the defense butt letting the other team score TD's on 7 of 8 firts drives Didnt help...

I'm not here to dismiss the failures of Dak, but wow....

Quinn is a fraud. Dude catches lightning in a bottle with a generational QB and people suddenly think he’s a good coach.

Quinn's defense was very good. It did have one weakness though- LB's/Run defense. Dak gifted 14 points early to Green Bay. That created the one situation Dallas could not allow itself to be drawn into. I think Dallas could win that game if replayed. It unfolded in the worst possible way.

Yeah when you lose a game like that it doesnt have to be an either/or type of situation. Plenty of blame to go around.

Post the postseason numbers. I know I'll hear crickets now

OK thats cool and all, but now do the Cowboys offense under McCarthy during that same time period. I have nothing against DQ, I'm a huge fan of his, but we need to have some sort of consistency in how we are evaluating these coaches, and not just try to fit the narrative you want.

The big question here is- which combination of coaches currently under consideration is better than Quinn + Moore?
