Early reports are saying Cowboys are making it a priority to resign Osa to a long-term extension. He is an ideal fit for our new up the field scheme. Same goes for DLaw who also is a fa, where he status is more unknown.

If Osa is resigned, is taking a 1st rd DT off the table for the Cowboys?

The way they think, I believe it is, unless Graham somehow falls in their lap. With a new offensive HC, I think that will be the direction they will want to address.

Osa will never be any better than pretty good at best in any scheme. We should not pay through the nose to re-sign him. He is replaceable. It is mind-numbing that this is even a consideration.
I agree. Some team will overpay him and the Cowboys can ill afford to do that. Ya, if we would have signed Dak for 45 million per as opposed to 60 per, we could entertain paying him more. But unfortunately, that is not the case.

Graham would be considered at 12. Grant would be considered with a trade back. Others would be considered at 44.

Even if we were paying Dak 45 million, we shouldn't offer Osa a big contract. He's not worth it. Not a bad player, just not worth re-signing in today's NFL. You have to be able to get what you can out of these types of guys, then move along. He's not going to give you any greater impact that any number of guys that could be had cheaper.

I don't disagree, but they want him back.

In trade back scenarios perhaps for the other DT's not named Graham.

I think they will try and sign Osa.

No. We need another player that can B gap. We are going to have two B gap players on passing downs. Mazi may never be more than an A gap player, so he will play in the 40% of snaps.

It probably would, but it absolutely shouldn't. Ideally, they would trade back a little than pick their guy. Dallas still needs a good NT (Grant), and I would add a power 3T (Harmon) to back up Osa and in a pinch could be the NT for Mazi...two available DTs after trade back.

iDL sets the table for DEs and LBs to eat, and that spill over to the secondary...hope the FO gets this done.

I agree, but don't think they will consider it a 1st rd priority.

Harmon could play both interior positions on all downs. Grant has the ability to play up the field, but will need development as a pass rusher.

We will see. I think there is a good chance Eberflus wont see Mazi as a fit. He may wind up a role player getting a very small snap share. If thats the case as he is looking at being on the field 30% or less, I could see DT being prioritized

It shouldn’t be…I’d 100% be on board with a DT in a trade down if it’s BPA.

Let’s turn a weakness into a strength.

He was top 5 in the NFL in pass rush win rate this year while still being average in run D. 3rd amongst DTs in pressures. Ahead of a lot of guys you probably think are way better based off the name only.

He won’t be cheap, but if we don’t want to downgrade what’s the solution? Even 1st round rookies usually take 2+ years or so to get going so don’t tell me a rookie.

Whenever folks talk about letting a player walk my question is always how do we replace his value?

I don't see Mazi as a starter at all, and Phillips is a stop-gap, so IMO we would still need another starting DT.

If the right guy is there at #12, pull the trigger.

I really doubt he is worth what his agent wants. Stats do not tell the whole story; they never do. I have not seen ANYONE that thinks Osa is all that.

I'm with you, but know how this front office operates. They want their 1st rd pick to be a plug and play day 1 starter, not a rotational piece.
