The Cowboys need to make a decision on Micah Parsons soon

Given the news of Myles Garrett wanting a trade breaking today, the Cowboys need to make a decision on Micah Parsons soon. I learned on the Pat McAfee Show today that Garrett has not got much guaranteed money on his contract remaining. If the Browns do not trade him, he will probably be extended to a massive deal. If he gets traded, he's going to command a lot of money.

This puts the ball in Jerry's court with Parsons. I think that the Cowboys need to decide what they want to do with Micah Parsons. If we are going to extend Parsons, then we need to do that ASAP while it's cheaper to do so. I don't want to go through another offseason where they are waiting until training camp to extend him like Dak and Lamb. The sooner we do it, the more money we can save. Additionally, the language of the contract could free up cap space, so that's another good reason to do it soon.

Alternatively, if they want to move on from Parsons, they should be floating Parsons out for trade deals before the draft so we can get as many picks as possible. Like Garrett with the Browns if they trade him, we would likely get a haul for Parsons.

In either case, the Joneses need to make a decision soon on Parsons. Either option is correct as far as I am concerned, provides that it's done before the draft and is done before something is done with Garrett.

So this will be the main thoughts of many.
Jerry will not be proactive, he will be reactive.
He will wait to see who sets the market then react. Micah already made statements about not having to be paid the highest. So he says. He is the opposite of Dak, no doing it for the brotherhood statements.

So Jerry needs to be reactive and get it done now. Unless they need to wait until the 2025 league years starts. But they can negotiate now and keep it quiet.

He’s playing on a 5th year option.

They are not trading Micah.

Look for an extension that frees up 15M+ in cap for 2024, while “kicking the can down the road” into 2026+

Basically, they can sign the 2025 rookie class.

They have no need to rush into the extension.

The 2025 cap is already jacked.

They already made $$$ on Micah.

17M on the 4YR rookie deal.

Parsons gonna get paid mega $$$

Likely the reason we part ways with Dak in March 2026.

The Browns recently stated they are NOT trading Garrett.
Remember Bosa is currently the highest-paid edge at $35M. Also, word is you can add T.J. Watt to this list .........he only has one year left on his current deal.

** he and Garrett are both over 30, Parsons will be 26 in May

If they retain Lance for a 2-3YR deal, then we can guess how they are playing the board.

If you were Parsons and his agent, or Dak or Lamb and their agents and you knew there were comparable players out there also up for a new deal why would you rush to be first to accept a new deal for the sake of saving the team money? Why wouldn't you wait it out knowing the payday is only going to increase as the other deals are done?

When it comes to the upper echelon of players the 'sign them early to save money' theory is pretty much a fallacy.

Micah might come to regret his previous statement stating that he's willing to accept less than the highest pay to stay with the Cowboys. It's very likely that Jerry & Stephen will likely take him up on his words and accommodate him by making his first offer extremely minimal. It should prove interesting to see how that situation develops whenever MP receives that initial offer. Let's hope both sides are well prepared to act in good faith. Negotiating can easily test the patience of both sides of the bargaining table when push comes to shove. It could easily be a long and testy process.

I have a feeling the Jones' are going to wait to the last possible minute to sign him It's their way, unfortunately. I'm hoping they will break that cycle and actually sign Micah very soon. We'll see.

Yeah, I'd imagine they might, but it'd be stupid to do so. The sooner they do it, the sooner we can make other moves. Plus, who knows? If we can free up enough cap space with an extension, maybe we can sign a free agent wr or nt who can be an exciting signing.

And that's what he should be doing with Micah. The Pro Bowl is over. Now it's time to start the negotiations and come to a decision before the start of the new league year.

Then Micah probably goes to Philly or Washington in 2026 without a trade. So, if they can't make a signing with him before the start of the new league year, then they need to trade him.
