Grading the 5 new NFL Coaching hires

Not surprising at all. Schotty was on nobody's radar and hasn't called plays since 2020. Today this was a shocking hire is an understatement.

The speculation is ridiculous. Having an opinion is fine, but declaring someone an A or a D when they've never done it is just silly. To those of you who think you know, why is Schotty such a horrible hire? If a team other than Dallas had hired him, would you think more of him? That seems to be the criteria for perceived coaching greatness...Anybody But Dallas.
Nope, I’d be laughing at them as well. I’d question what they were thinking. He’s been in this league a very long time and as a play caller he had what 1 top 10 offense? If he was so skilled why has it taken this long and a comfort organization to hire him?

I dont know if Shot had a say in these hires. im HOPING he did. But its a whatever, most are really good, but only JJ is the lynchpin.

For Shot, im wishing the best, i hope he proves me wrong. I dont know where the organization goes from here, id rather see Shot get 3 years to build, i doubt JJ allows that. But who knows right now.

OL coach will make or break the season.

If its me, give Shot the 3 years, bring in your own guys, lets build.

JJ, i have the same crappy plan that doesnt work, but i expect awesome results this year. I feel this is the thing that derails Shotty UNTIL we have proven facts. im just talking right now.

It's not hard.
You don't get promoted to a position of higher authority if you were average at best in your position of lower authority.
And especially if as a non play calling offensive coordinator for the last 2 years.
Throw in a public confession of I'm not the best X's and O's guy and you get a promotion based off what merit?
This is playcaller number 5 in the last 10 years.
There's one common denominator during that time.
And one albatross contract that the owner/GM can not allow to make him look wrong publicly.

That's reality.

Some continue to try to spin this into something it's not.

  you lost me Creep. What do you think they are trying to accomplish?

At the end of the day, I like what Helman said........there's nothing to suggest Shotty will be any worse than any of the other FIRST TIME head coaches coz none has ever done it. He's right........being a master play designer or play caller doesn't mean you can manage people and a team. This is particular true when things start going south and pressure kicks in.
Hiring Schottenheimer was the cheapest move and certainly not the most aggressive or creative. When Jerry hires a coach it is because he thinks the coach give theh Cowboys the best chance of winning? or is it because the coach will allow Jerry to do what he does? Jerry got what he wanted, and does not necessarily mean a coach that will give the Cowboys the best chance of winning.

the ulimate game being the ulimate bet is we dont know.

this is the combine. tell me all the stats? does that judge his heart? No, none of the numbers tells me the fight in the player.

Give me all the stats about Parcells, does that mean Parcells will win you a SB? No Everyone who is anyone did or CAN witness how the Giants won their 2 SBs with Eli, under Tom C, a very good coach, but even Tom couldnt coach hsi way when they hit lightning in a bottle and thats what the Giants did.. Sports is and was (may not be anymore) the ulimate reality tv. No coach is always going to win based on numbers.

Garrett was gifted with the SB win when Dak and Zeke arrived. GIFTED, but, he chose to blow it, but if he makes the right call, based off one play, that is the lynchpin , yes, even Garrett could have won a SB.

Dallas doesnt win and lose in September, December, or the playoffs, most of our years we ve lost in April. Not a lot of fans saw it or would admit it, but you can pin point what JJ was doing, where he got what he wanted and how that collapsed a season before it began.

This year, its an anomoly, now we can say yea hes doing great with the hires and say ITS GOING TO BE OUR YEAR. but slam on the breaks, JJ can do a lot of damange to his own team come FA and the draft.

In fact, JJ can sabtoage his team with one bad hire.

Im not worried if Shot is the worst or best, thats in JJs hands and JJ will do any thing JJ wants to do, and there is NOTHING we are going to do about it

But even if he stays out of it, Shot has the same chance as most of the other teams.

WE still have a lot of football ahead of us. When september comes, it will be deteremined by what we do in March and April. Everything else is just going through the motions until than.

Once again we let the top HCs out of the building. First, Jimmy Johnson, Sean Payton then Quinn.

Everything you say here is true, but with one realization.

The NFL is an entertainment business, not a sports winning business. It is absolutely not a Truth, Merit, and a Color\Gender\Religious Blind company, and actually fights against this.

Unfortunately neither are most companies today. You must adhere to a past that is no longer used by todays society. How dare you ask for and expect "the best".......You'll take what they give you and be entertained while they rake in their money.

This is todays reality.

I was told that regardless of what they did at the position of lower authority, they will be stretched and might be much better at the new higher authority........after all some guys are not always good at actual thinking or physical work, but can work people all day long. IE see most upper levels of management. (Never hire anyone that makes you look stupid)

Yeah, you nailed it here man.
But I just don't think I'll ever fully understand the failing up principle of coach hiring being used on this one.
OR maybe I do from the whole continuity of Dak's offense angle and I just don't want to accept that as reality. I mean, a continuance of doing the same thing and all...and the insanity definition.

So regardless of whatever my opinions are on the coach hiring process, i believe there's plenty more losing years ahead imo.

And that sucks.

Meh .....who knew :Lions HC Dan Campbell would turn out as a great HC hire ...?

He's our most vocal person in the media, he's not shy to say how he feels. Just wondering when we will hear from him about the new coaches and being with another defensive coordinator, please give your thoughts. What do you think he'll say about them
