Not surprising at all. Schotty was on nobody's radar and hasn't called plays since 2020. Today this was a shocking hire is an understatement.
Nope, I’d be laughing at them as well. I’d question what they were thinking. He’s been in this league a very long time and as a play caller he had what 1 top 10 offense? If he was so skilled why has it taken this long and a comfort organization to hire him?The speculation is ridiculous. Having an opinion is fine, but declaring someone an A or a D when they've never done it is just silly. To those of you who think you know, why is Schotty such a horrible hire? If a team other than Dallas had hired him, would you think more of him? That seems to be the criteria for perceived coaching greatness...Anybody But Dallas.
Hiring Schottenheimer was the cheapest move and certainly not the most aggressive or creative. When Jerry hires a coach it is because he thinks the coach give theh Cowboys the best chance of winning? or is it because the coach will allow Jerry to do what he does? Jerry got what he wanted, and does not necessarily mean a coach that will give the Cowboys the best chance of winning.![]()
you lost me Creep. What do you think they are trying to accomplish?
At the end of the day, I like what Helman said........there's nothing to suggest Shotty will be any worse than any of the other FIRST TIME head coaches coz none has ever done it. He's right........being a master play designer or play caller doesn't mean you can manage people and a team. This is particular true when things start going south and pressure kicks in.
the ulimate game being the ulimate bet is we dont know.Hiring Schottenheimer was the cheapest move and certainly not the most aggressive or creative. Everything you say here is true, but with one realization. It's not hard.
You don't get promoted to a position of higher authority if you were average at best in your position of lower authority.
And especially if as a non play calling offensive coordinator for the last 2 years.
Throw in a public confession of I'm not the best X's and O's guy and you get a promotion based off what merit?
This is playcaller number 5 in the last 10 years.
There's one common denominator during that time.
And one albatross contract that the owner/GM can not allow to make him look wrong publicly.
That's reality.
Some continue to try to spin this into something it's not.
Yeah, you nailed it here man.Everything you say here is true, but with one realization.
The NFL is an entertainment business, not a sports winning business. It is absolutely not a Truth, Merit, and a Color\Gender\Religious Blind company, and actually fights against this.
Unfortunately neither are most companies today. You must adhere to a past that is no longer used by todays society. How dare you ask for and expect "the best".......You'll take what they give you and be entertained while they rake in their money.
This is todays reality.
I was told that regardless of what they did at the position of lower authority, they will be stretched and might be much better at the new higher authority........after all some guys are not always good at actual thinking or physical work, but can work people all day long. IE see most upper levels of management. (Never hire anyone that makes you look stupid)
