Eagles S C.J. Gardner Johnson traded to Texans

There is no pretending the Eagles have not lost significant personnel. Like the Cowboys, they are not as good right now as they were 24 hours ago. If Roseman is some sort of genius, and if Sirianni is what his gaudy resume indicates he might be, they’re going to get a chance to prove it this season. With the schedules facing all four NFCE teams this season, the Eagles may very well miss the playoffs. The Commanders are much better than they were 24 hours ago. And they want financing for a new stadium.
But the Eagles are set up to soften the blow. Ojomo (sp??) played well in that d-line rotation and will take Williams spot. Bradberry is cooked anyway-all of us know this. Maybe moving off of Slay is making the move one year early instead of one year too late, a la Belichek--how many 34-year old corners are in the league? They have Ringo to step in, the guy AJ Brown says gives him fits every practice. I guess he gets a shot at starting, and I think they still have Sydney Brown, whose issue is health. I can't get a read on CJGJ--I think he's a very good player but seems to wear out his welcome everywhere he plays. The guard the Eagles got from the Texans was a bust, but so was Becton. Maybe a year in Stoutland University fixes him. The Eagles also have another Aussie Samoan rugby player on the practice squad going the Jordan Mailata route. They have a lot of picks in a deep DL draft.

Eagles lost talent, but they seemed set to take the blow and keep competitive. They locked in their AP linebacker and made sure Barkley is happy. I think the bigger issue is losing more coordinators. This is a weird fact I got from an Eagles fan: Jalen Hurts, going back to his college days, has never has the same offensive coordinator two years in a row. That's crazy.

As for the schedule...NFCE has brutal schedules. I don't think the Giants win more than two games next season if they don't improve that roster. Eagles and Washington will have to fight to reach 11 wins. There's now a full year of tape on Daniels. We might be able to sneak in and make it a three-way race for the division next season--go ahead, call me a dreamer.

They’re vulnerable. Samoan rugby players and Ringo notwithstanding, the Eagles have work to do rebuilding their roster. Sydney Brown is legit when he’s not on injured reserve. Nonetheless, Philly needs to add talent, including a solid running back behind Barkley. And Goedert, well, I suspect the Eagles will try to move up in the first to get Warren. That’s going to cost a lot of assets. It’s the kind of stuff Roseman pulls that puts new wrinkles in the team’s offense. Dallas and Philadelphia are chasing Washington now. No disrespect to the defending champions.

The Eagles won the Super Bowl. They aren’t chasing anyone, lol. They still have a better roster than Washington, and certainly better than ours.

They drafted Will Shipley last year, he’ll take over for Gainwell.
I don’t see them trading up for Warren. Grant Calcaterra was serviceable last year and Goedert is still under contract through this season.

Shipley had juice in his limited time. I am excited to see more of him. That and Barkley really doesn’t come out a lot. I agree, I don’t think they add a veteran because I think they want ship to take that spot. Shipley at 2 and they will add a late draft pick/undrafted/practice squad guy will be number 3.

As for the draft, I think DT,Edge,TE will be the top 3 picks in what ever order.

Eagles would never draft a TE in the first round. Theyre prelates of positional value

They drafted Mitchell and DeJean last year and both were really good as rookies. DeJean will slide into Slay's spot and Mitchell was already starting. They will need that 3rd CB though but overall, they are going to be more than fine on the outside.

I didn't hear Dejean is sliding over. I believe he'll be playing the nickel where yes, he was fantastic last year. Roseman is talking about Ringo taken the place of Slay. That's a pretty significant drop off. Roseman is mentioning Sidney Brown as a replacement for Gardner Johnson. They better have a heckuva draft or there's going to be a significant talent loss for that team. Roseman is stacking the Eagles with draft picks so he probably won't sign any free agents. I imagine he'll fill any holes with released players and trades so it doesn't affect comp pics.

So have the Niners but they both have competent GMs that actually have a plan
Yep, the Niners appear to be in full rebuild mode....tear it down, take your lumps and make a run in two years. I would expect to see them build their lines over the next two drafts and become a player in free agency maybe 2 years from now.

Eagles are still paying a lot of guys and they have said don't get too excited about what they are doing until it is time for training camp. They have lost a lot on defense but offense will be pretty much the same....a new face here or there but could have 5 new starters on D. They are not in rebuild mode IMO.

People said the same about Becton last year.
He has great talent, perhaps a great OL coach and HOF players around him help bring it out of him, as they did with Becton.
Becton had significantly more talent than this guy. Becton's biggest problem was handling speed rushers playing the tackle position. Putting him at guard was significant in making him a better player. Becton's career was also plagued by injury. This Green guy is not anywhere close as talented. He's already playing the guard position and what benched. He's not much of a replacement and I'm guessing they are hoping to resurrect him for a backup role. No starter

Howie is up to something because he has accumulated like 10 picks in the first 5 rounds of the 2026 draft so far
He's not up to anything. He's allowing some talented starters to sign elsewhere, or trading them and collecting draft picks as well as comp pics. It's what he did for many years unless they think they can win a Super Bowl then he adds talent through free agency.

Last year Becton now Green . They are rebuilding investing in that OL with the help of former ones from other cities . It’s smart .
Sure, it's smart because they don't have the salary cap Space to keep these guys. So it's out of necessity to downgrade as well. Green isn't a starter, and a significant downgrade to the monster Becton was when they moved him to guard from tackle where he was too slow. I'm sure Steen will take the place of Becton. He won't be Becton, but I'll bet he's a heck of a lot better than Green who was a turnstile at guard believe it or not.

Bechton was on the scrap heap career-wise. His team gave up on him. In one season he resurrected his career. He played a significant role on a Super Bowl winning team. Now he’s on the market and will earn more than he imagined possible 12 months ago.

Now, imagine how Green felt when he found out he was traded…to the Philadelphia Eagles. Whatever he’s got he is going to give it all to his new team.

CJ never scored particularly high as a S on analytics, but he just seemed to be one of those guys that made big plays at key moments, so I think they will miss him,
I would also assume that getting Green means they let Becton walk.
Green is interesting, we loved him in his draft, he just seemed to struggle in Houston. I'd imagine the Eagles believe his talent is like Bectons and the change may produce similar results for them. Still, I think resigning Becton and keeping CJ made them a better team, though the financial move was a win.
Didn't he want to be back in Philly so bad and then they trade him.

Yeah, but Becton came out of college as a significantly talented guy. I think he was drafted in the top 5? He was a monster, but wasn't fast enough to play tackle. He kept getting beat by speed rushers, and he kept getting significant injuries to hamper his time in the NFL. By moving him to guard where his extreme size can flourish, and lack of speed won't hurt him paid off. Green already played guard and he was a liability, and eventually benched. He was a turnstile as a guard which isn't easy. He won't beat out Steen so I'm guessing he'll be a untalented backup. Maybe they want to use him at fullback, or a 6 man front or running downs but I'm sure they have better players to do that on the roster already
