Dak restructure. Why?

Why? The restructuring of Dak's previous contract pushed $40M of cap hit/dead money into the 2025 season, even if Dak had not been re-signed. The cap hit from Dak's new $60M per season deal is actually in addition to that. It was inevitable that the new contract had to be restructured.

If evenly spread out, the combined cap hit over the next 4 years would average $70M per season. Dallas will of course use void years, ensuring that Dak's cap hit will continue long after he is gone.
With the way the CAP keeps going up it makes sense to push that $40m as far down the road as possible.

Why oh why would you restructure Dak if all you’re going to do is sign FAs to low end contracts. What kind of terrible cap management is this? If you’re going after tier 1 or 2 ok it makes sense but to bring in the guys they have brought in makes zero sense. This FO is inept and continues to prove they have no clue what they are doing.
Need the cap $$$ to sign players.

From what I'm hearing, Dallas is getting another 18M in cap space in a day or so. What wasn't mentioned was the source of this money. Then another roughly 10m in space after the sign Parsons. What are they doing with 75m in cap space?

After Being a Cowboys fan for so many years Ive had to sit back and take a real hard look at who I am rooting for. Being a Fan has brought back many memories of my Dad and me spending time together. After the years I started to learn more about the game but it was a good day for Dad and daughter to bond. Its been a while since my dad passed but I often think about how he would feel about the state of the Cowboys. I'm pretty sure he would have felt and shared many of your views. It's so hard to watch such a great organization that has brought such great memories turn to such hatred.
To love something so much to see it now as the laughing stock of the NFL. I can see Wrath rise up when posters try to spin a happy version. That's their right to be blinded with such ignorance.
I said all that to say Two freaking day in FA and In Jerry mind he feels he active. He's signed several backups SELECTIVELY and cheap. We do this every year and half the time they don't even make the team. No one was beating down their doors to sign them I mean you see what the offers are.
So WHY did we restructure Daks salary then sit idle?
Jerry has had so many opportunities to make this a great team.
He likes to stay around the rim to keep everyone guessing.
When Jerry passes I wont be surprised to find out he has Alzheimers
He bought the SB wins and now he has to play by rules that he nor his son understand.
WHY would Micha want to even sign here much less give the Cowboys a discount.
I don't even think if we hit on every pick we could contend we might make the playoffs but as long as the Jones owns the Cowboys were going to have to face it this is a dying franchise.

But if Dak had not taken that contract, we could have signed so many players last year. LOL. These guys are just cheap when it comes to free agency. We could have 200 million in cap space and it would not matter. When will fans get this??

Half the guys they’ve signed will. It be on the team by mid season. Some will be gone before the first game arrives.

We do restructures like this every year
Yep. And we go for the same type of FA each year. Guys who have under performed and are cheap or guys close to the end, or coming off injury who are cheap. The restructure I think we all knew wasn’t to go all in, it was to clear cap space that can be carried over or spent on Micah and not put so much on the end. It was never gonna be about going after an A tier FA

Because restructuring his and Lambs contracts actually got them around 10-12m in space that they could actually play with. Turpin’s contract and Williams contract might have actually bumped that up a million or 2 but most of that 54m was just a delusion!
I thought it was $36.6m they saved on Dak? There was no need to do it when they did, it actually showed their hand in contract negotiations....."But Jerry, you're not CAP poor, now pay up".

Would have made more sense to make Dak play out his contract last year, but here we are.
Just adding a conspiracy theory. It may of been restructured as a show of faith that we arent considering cutting him next year by announcing that we're not picking up his 2027 salary. ......'look Dak, with the Dead Money we'd have to soak up youre secure here'.

Lets be fair, with Dak's issue's under pressure we dont want him on the field worrying about his contract/job and trying too hard.....we've seen those results.

But, if we dont do anything substantial in Free Agency, there is the chance we're mailing in 2025 as a prove it to Dak (and other's, yes Steel, Ferguson im looking at you) .....saving up the CAP Saving to roll over to cover some of the Dead Money in 2026.

Yeah but that doesn't make any sense. If they weren't going to do anything in free agency and we're going to mail it in then restructuring Fak was just as stupid as extending him last year. It's going to make his dead cap hit even higher next year. They could have just ate it this year if that was the plan. If they were smart I mean.

I saw an interesting theory on this someone posted on X. The theory goes that Dallas was interested in Ward and Greenlaw and was actually going to bod on them but were not willing to go as high as the teams that signed those two guys. That left them with the CAP space they created but no one to spend it on. I don't know if it is true and I have not seen any stories about Dallas having a legitimate interest in those 2 players but it could be one explanation why they created the CAP space. At this point maybe the should roll it over into next year because CeeDee's deal is less CAP friendly next year.

That's a feasible scenario.... the Jerry fear about going over and above. Always wanting a bargain, can't bear someone accusing him of overpaying his precious money.

Dak's deal was a "scheduled" restructure. It was ALWAYS happening.
Whether you move that money forward or not is ONLY of a net benefit.

You can simply carry that cash forward to next year and use it then. But you get it now so it is essentially free "storage".
