I don't know. Maybe the Cowboys know something I don't know....
But last year, they had their best LT, who also happens to be the best LG, playing LG. Meanwhile, the player that struggles the most ends up at LT, where his best position happens to be RT.
So what gives? Even when Dak went down, there were no changes in the offensive line where one could argue a player swap may have benefited an offebse
but actually it didn't
we've already had this discussion a few times/
Hoffman played better than Martin, Terence steele at the end of the year played better than he did at the beginning, but I believe they didn't want to change the middle because they had a rookie at center and now Hoffman playing.. If they put bass in place of Tyler Smith how is that not gonna weaken an area right down the middle somewhere in one of those two inside gaps the defense don't have to challenge outside to go over top of Tyler Smith now they just move inside and still create the habit that they were creating on the outside..imho
they didn't want to move a better left guard than a left tackle in Tyler Smith, let's be real here he was a really good left tackle, but he's an all pro left guard, there's a difference and you don't know if he goes back out there which he might be unwilling to do at least in his mind he's asking them not to do it he could end up having an offseason readjusting back to left tackle...
The problem here is whenever they wanted to take guyton out he had to go right back in because chuma got hurt then they tried Richards and Richard got hurt and they were rotating people over there and I get what you're saying but our offensive line played way better down the stretch then it did the first games before Prescott got hurt they had a better run game the pass protection was better things looked better for Cooper rush because of all that...
It can't hurt to start the training camp letting this new scheme this new coaching staff work with guyton at left tackle the parachute would be to move him to right tackle but then what do you do with Terrence Steele he makes a lot of money to be a floater I guess you can make him the swing tackle but I believe he didn't play horrible enough that they wanted to move him last year I mean what were you going to do with steel last year this year might be able to move him and save some money as a June 1st cut but I think if you look at the coaching in the scheme that might be bigger than the players and we have a lot of players on this team maybe Nate Thomas and some others that with the new coaching staff it includes the online coach the offensive coordinator used to be one of the better offensive line coaches and having BS call plays and probably willing to change schemes and mess with alignments more than Mike McCarthy wanted to...
But when you say nothing changed Martin was playing well below his level Cooper BB was trying to catch up and got better Terrence still got better late so really the only swinging weak spot was at LT and they did their best to hide it..
The great thing for Guyton is it's going to be year 2 he's going to be probably more mentally stable, ie calm, and comfortable, better in the weight room, film study, and maybe this coaching staff will help him more than anybody else on this team... His head was spinning that's for sure the more he was getting beat the worse he got he was starting to get penalties and then he was getting injured and then pulled so let's see what it looks like in training camp it'll be very interesting to see how it all works out preseason games will probably be test #1 because if he struggled in a preseason game against probably less talent to pass rushers then they're gonna have to make a change..
