TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

Going from 5th to 7th is losing draft position. The 5th is gone and they got a 7th. I wouldn't get too excited, Milton was a 6th pick that NE let go after one year. Remember Lance was a first round pick who people said had upside. I hope Milton works out, but I'm not buying he is the next big thing. He is a backup.
Melton is well worth pick 171. They just drafted their qb a month early. Excellent move.

I saw him play for years. Overthrow one wide open WR after another. He literally ran out of bounds on his opponents 15 yd line long after time had expired instead of chucking one into the endzone to give his team a chance. Too stupid to realize the implications. 3 years at TN, never learned how to run the offense. NE very publicly puts him up for trade, their best offer, and I suspect their only offer, was trading up 30 spots at the very bottom of a bad draft. He couldn't beat out Grier in an honest competition, but the 2 fools who run this team will no doubt keep him around as a pipe dream for the next couple years.
The raw, non filtered, truthful version of Joe Milton.

Agreed. After all these years of mediocrity, it's amazing to me how worked up our fans still get about these basically pointless moves. This is a guy who someday "might" be a backup. People just keep licking up the slop Jerry keeps serving.
Pointless is the perfect word to describe it. Like every other offseason roster move not named Fowler, this does nothing whatsoever to improve the roster.
Ya know, the whole point of offseason?

People are attaching false hopes to a slightly better Trey Lance(maybe) while Schott has no credible QB coach on his staff to even coach him up in the first place. I find this fact wildly amusing.

CZ should charge admission to this thread for the entertainment value alone.

Ultimately our franchise QB needs to be a first round pick. And as long as this team, thinks they are contenders they will never invest a first round pick in a qb.
Agree, but I’d add that it’ll actually need to be probably the top pick in the draft in a year when an absolute stud is coming out in order to overcome the shortcomings of the front office, who when in a legit position to win, refuses to add what’s necessary to get over the top.

They need a prime Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning to win a SB.

The odds are near impossible that getting the top pick coincides with that player coming out that year, especially when other teams know how to suck properly.

Man, even if you nail that part of it, getting a Trevor Lawrence is possible.

Damn good point, yet sad. Shows the passion.

I’ve fully given up on these two pulling off the blind squirrel thing, but I’ve not at all given up on this team being likeable again, and having a real chance again at some point before it’s over for me.

It meant too much beforehand to just let it go.

Truer words never spoken.
Its just that this Front Office's delusions of thinking they are contenders are an insurmountable barrier to overcome.

Absolute bottoming out to get the first overall pick is the only path to even begin to talk about a foundation to build on.

And then they would need the absolute best top alfa dawg pedigreed pick in a year of elite choices.

This GM or his son can not build around a lesser QB in order to win a trophy.

The Cowboys need a top one percent guy who can win in any system or coaching "in spite of the Joneses."

This is Cowboys reality.

Right now they have 7 picks from the 5 through the 7th.
Could trade up into the 4th. If they don’t trade down in then1st. Or both.
Jerry is getting fleeced out of 4th and 5th rd picks faster than McDonalds can ask you if you want fries with your order! By the time the draft rolls around Jerry and the Cowboys will have nothing left except 7th rd picks!

So far this off season they made good trades. They can’t draft players as good as the 3 they got at least on paper.
Murray, Elam, Milton, all can contribute right away over late round picks.

Mingo from last year, still TBD.
Remember we have yet to see him with Dak, and a good run game.

You are 100:percent correct. Said it much better than me. I just feel these late picks just aren’t going to be anything more than they are. And I know people dislike Dak but even he’s tough to find these days and I can respect Dallas for not fooling themselves into thinking otherwise.

Yeah, the sad and unfortunate truth. You’re 100 percent correct.

never saw him play but based on how people here describe him, reminds me of James Harris. Anyone else remember him? Mid 70s
L A Rams. An absolute cannon but struggled with accuracy and not very good on touch passes. But serviceable. I'm good with the deal.
Doggone it, Uncle Jerry, ya done good.

When I think of using a mid to late first rounder on a QB just because you need one, dudes like Jake Locker and Kenny Pickett come immediately to mind. I mean, there’s dozens, but they are just examples.

How about Jerry’s pet Paxton Lynch? Quincy Carter?
“I’m a Libra, he’s a Libra…”

I dunno who is finding the next QB for this team but my cash ain’t on Jerry.

Yeah I guess he stepped in it with Prescott but of course handled it poorly by thinking he is something he isn’t, and also wanted Lynch and Connor Cook over him in that draft.

In my opinion...
When a player is lost the incoming replacement player needs to be as good as or better than the one lost.
Javonte Williams or Sanders are not as good as Dowdle.
Grier and Milton are not as good as Rush.
Fowler is a plus pass rusher probably even better than Lawrence as a pass rusher. That's one.
Sanborn and Murray are not as good as Kendricks and Overshown, whose recovery timetable is an unknown at this point.
Elam is not as good as Jordan Lewis or Diggs, whose recovery timetable is still an unknown.
I'm searching for the improvements over losses here?

Just my opinion.
