Mazi Breakout Incoming?

He got walked backward on skates from individual centers or guards, not double teams every freaking game.
Him and that bum that got cut and went to the Bills were pathetic.

When your first trait listed on the draft profile is slow off the ball it should be an obvious red flag.

Then the weight room workout lies on strength that absolutely does not show up on tape.

If the measuring bar is so low that it's to the point of comparing the '23 bottom of the barrel bust and the '24 not quite as bottom of the barrel but still pathetic, then there are major issues.

This ain't improvement.
Film don't lie.
He still loses almost every snap at the point of attack.
Period.

He's looking a million miles from being an asset to us, a million miles.

I guess he could turn the corner but he's shown literally nothing in 2 years.

Nah, I don't see it. No matter how excited Parsons got when he was drafted.

I will say this. The better players they put around Parsons, the better he'll be.

As a Michigan fan, I was a fan of Mazi in college but not of his slow development. The same seems to be true for him in the NFL. But looking at next gen stats and AI analysis of the position... a breakout could be coming.

"based on observations and data, many DTs see a significant rise in their role and impact after a few seasons, often around their 3rd or 4th year."

The talent is there. The preparation time has been put in... what what about the coach? Eberflus is a fan: "Yeah, I'm excited about Mazi," Eberflus said, via the team's website. "I liked him coming out. He's a real explosive athlete, with a big body type that can move really well. Excited about bringing his game to the next level, and he could certainly do that."

Mazi appeared to "turn the corner" late last year and with the appropriate amount of "seasoning"... I think he could be posed for a breakout this year.
I will be happy if he was not the last to get off in DL and at least engage the OL on top of him, let alone play double teams.

Just do the Typical 1 T position play.

I know right? The absolute bare minimum expectation still seems to be asking too much.

smh

Yep, and Osi is going to play like a top DT because he got the bag. That’s how it works.

If they don’t add a top DT talent early in the draft, they are going to get stomped against the run yet again by better teams.

Then again, if they don’t add a WR2 they are in danger of having an inept offense. And oh yeah, they need a top back also.

Anyone else catching the big picture here?

Our best best as far as getting multiple studs may be WR/DT/RB.

I think if we followed that format in the first 3 rounds we'd probably have significant contributions from all 3.

There are a lot of DTs in this draft I'd rather have and it wouldn't even take a 1st round pick to get them. Mazi was just a reach in the 2023 Draft. It's unfortunate because some people are even turned off on Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant in this draft just because they went to the same school as Mazi  But they are superior prospects

Mazi was a first-round pick who hasn’t improved the defense in a meaningful way during his first two-years in Dallas. I understand the inconsistency with schemes and coordinators, but football for a DL is all about beating your man, being able to shed blocks and playing your gaps…something he hasn’t done well in his Dallas career. I am not expecting a big improvement from him. If you’re a legitimate first-round player, you should be able to play at a high-level in any scheme. Clearly he is not such a player.

Eberflus is right that DTs usually put it all together around their 3rd or 4th year (one reason why I don't like spending high picks on them). But Mazi has barely even shown a pulse. He played like the worst DT in football for the first half of the season, then played like a bottom-feeder DT4 type for the second half. If that's the light coming on, then it's barely a flicker.

Does Mazi even fit into the Marinelli ‘get up field’ first scheme?

..they say 3rd try is the Charm. Will find out.

Would I bet on it? Probably not.

I hear ya man. If the bar is so low as to call that second half of his season "improvement" then a few people in here need someone sitting beside them to explain what they're watching on Sundays.

Let’s see how we draft in the coming weeks. That will be a telling sign with how the team values him. I think he could be a camp cut

two years in. he is nothing but backup and rotation material. he has shown no flashes of anything. when he plays just a little better, where you can call it acceptable....people celebrate....he went from total crap, to somewhat crap is not a reason to be optimistic. he has shown absolutely nothing for anyone to think he is going to break out.

I will eat my words and four plateful of crow if he breaks out.

Very much pulling for him I mean why not
