Mazi Breakout Incoming?

For whatever reason, Mazi just hasn't shown much in his first two years. I expect this trend to continue, but I'd love to be wrong.

Our best best as far as getting multiple studs may be WR/DT/RB.

I think if we followed that format in the first 3 rounds we'd probably have significant contributions from all 3.
They will get one. The others will remain unsolved for now, and by the time it’s fixed under this philosophy, another position will become a problem.

I understand hat having a perfect roster in the cap era is difficult, but it’s pretty much necessary with this FO and the coaches they are willing to hire.

You can actually get strong contributions from DT and RB later in this draft. At least they are deeper than normal classes. Not saying I expect it, but it's not a crazy thought to believe our needs line up well with this draft.

Sounds good to me. If they want a WR that they expect to hit the field in year one that’s probably gotta be the first rounder, as much as I want high picks invested in the DL.

I hope I'm wrong, but my guess is that they won't be picking up his 5th year option after this season.

As a Michigan fan, I was a fan of Mazi in college but not of his slow development. The same seems to be true for him in the NFL. But looking at next gen stats and AI analysis of the position... a breakout could be coming.

"based on observations and data, many DTs see a significant rise in their role and impact after a few seasons, often around their 3rd or 4th year."

The talent is there. The preparation time has been put in... what what about the coach? Eberflus is a fan: "Yeah, I'm excited about Mazi," Eberflus said, via the team's website. "I liked him coming out. He's a real explosive athlete, with a big body type that can move really well. Excited about bringing his game to the next level, and he could certainly do that."

Mazi appeared to "turn the corner" late last year and with the appropriate amount of "seasoning"... I think he could be posed for a breakout this year.
SMH. Cowboys fans love, crave, and demand mediocrity.

I believe the future of Mazi was predictable when Mazi declared he didn't like football very much. That's a foolish thing to admit when a player wants to establish a career in pro football. He'll have to show way more interest in being a starter when preseason commences. Otherwise, he'll eventually be cut. If that's what he wants, it's quite likely to happen. Physical ability means very little, minus real desire. Let's hope he changes his outlook to improve his lot in life.

It's most likely a lot of coach speak... but Mazi is an impressive athlete. He did rank #1 on Bruce Feldman's "College Football Freaks List" prior to the 2022 season and when user input his metrics into RAS he scored a 9.99.

First off, I am neutral on PFF. I like some of their analytics based stuff and not so much others.

But even the most casual fan would hafta say that a rank of 209 out of a possible 217 run stop defensive linemen ranking should give pause on judging this guy positively.

I mean, even the most homer of homers should maybe take another look with that kinda incompetence at your job.
Just sayin.
