Mavs Trade Luka to Lakers

Yes. This year and next.
After that it goes the way of the wind.
No R1 in 27.
28 is a pick swap with friggin OKC!!!
29 you get the Lakers pick and you have your own subject to 3 team pick swap madness --this is good in that it allows you trade a pick in here somewhere since you have 1 free pick not attached to swaps.
30 you have a pick but subject to pick swaps.

Thanks for the rundown . Need to net a blue chip star the the next two drafts or it’s really bleak .

So they traded a top 3 star to the biggest market team, Lakers, and didn’t even consider trading him anywhere else? Where they could’ve gotten exponentially more in return? All this while LeBron and LA was clinging to a play-in spot for the playoffs and the NBA ratings are falling off a cliff? Something smells fishy. Either Doncic was adamant about going there and no one is saying it or there are other forces at work.

Luka was stunned. He didn't push for this.

Luka and the front office were having petty squabbles because he took a 2-month break after the Finals. His first real break in 4 years!!!!
But he was never in top shape to start seasons, and they hated that, so they fired the best trainer in the league and didn't allow Luka's personal guys on site. Luka dug in and did even less. He was injured and couldn't do real cardio but drank beer and smoked hookah.
Mad they lost JB who was his best friend on the team for nothing and mad they fired Casey Smith he hung out with his Dad.
He was going to have to play his way into shape making it a bad season for him.
Rather than appease Luka they traded him in the middle of the night without shopping him to the League or giving anyone a heads up this was coming.

It will get Nico fired and very likely end his NBA career. It will cost the Adelsons a projected 100+ Million dollars!!!
They are already losing 10s of millions in just this partial season.

They built the franchise and the financial model around Luka. Now they do not have him and are basically an expansion franchise the nights AD and Kyrie can't go.
To make matters even worse Kyrie has a player option next year. He can opt in for 44M or become a free agent. The injury would appear to lock him in, but it only buys 1 season in which he is not expected to be ready to go as it kicks off. He has to decide by 6-25 so he is locked in or out before free agency starts.

Mavs are WELL over the cap.

This isn't bleak this is a Russian literature novel.

The best answer going forward is probably fire Nico, fire Kidd, trade AD/Kyrie/Klay/Gafford to recoup assets and cap space. --tough to do because you don't want the cap hits coming back.
Tank as hard as has ever been tanked next year.
Focus on developing Lively, Kai Jones, Brandon Willaims, Jalen Hardy, OMax, Christie.

The report was Nico needed a specific type of star back that’d help their inside defense while also being a top scorer; LA was pretty much the only team like that with a player available

No. Sorry.
Anyone who thinks that the Mavs made a good trade IS a complete dope.

There is no logical or factual argument to suggest otherwise.
Just talking in emotions. There is an argument for why it’s a good move. I don’t think tonight was suppose to sway anyone’s mind. Everyone knows Luka is good. Can you win a ring with him? Not sure. Id like to think you can with the right pieces.

I’m really shocked by the reception Luka. Is getting. It’s almost godlike. I saw someone today say Nico is the worst GM but he just built a team that made the Finals….yet Jerry can’t even get to a conference championship lol.

There’s no argument for it being a good move, unless you want them to move the team.

I think there is.

You couldn’t win a ring with Luka. Maybe Lakers can with him playing a longside one of the greatest players in the league. Prime example when things got bad last night after Luka got gassed….Lebron turned vintage and it was too much.

This Mavs team was suppose to have Kyrie. When he went down any chance they had was gone.

Mavs never got enough for Luka. I don’t think you ever can. But a package of Austin Reeves, AD, Christie and a 1st rounder sure looks a lot better than what they did get.

I could’ve been sold on a core of Lively/Gafford, AD, PJ, Klay and Kyrie.

Kessler Edward’s, Kai Jones and Brandon Williams have been nice finds.

The Luka move brings emotions and I get it. For some guys this is their Larry Bird. Well except without the rings. People probably would’ve died if Celtics got rid of Bird in his prime.

I don’t even think there was this much hatred when they let Steve Nash walk for free and he won two MVPs lol.

Maybe they should’ve shipped him to the gutter like Brooklyn.

Nico spoke to two teams. Neither team had many draft picks to trade.
Minny where he asked for Ant as the centerpiece and LA where he asked for AD and Reaves but got talked down to AD/Christie, Minny said no thanks on Ant.

After the fact Nico mentioned defense and all that nonsense but with Lively and Gafford, Dallas had elite inside play and good defense. Especially with Luka making Lively an offensive weapon on rolls. They just made the friggin Finals. It is literally insane. BOS had the easiest run to the Finals of any team in NBA history last year. The East had suffered injuries and lacked depth, so BOS coasted fresh into the Finals where they destroyed Dallas as Dallas had destroyed a murderer's row of teams in the West. Basing any decision off that series loss shows the basketball IQ of a gnat but here we are.

He made this trade because his feelings were hurt; and he wanted to prove he was the man in Dallas. He hid it from everyone in the Dallas front office except the new owner until it was verbally agreed to.

This is a level of self-psychosis not seen since Dame Dash tried to say he made Jay Z....

I just don’t see any way to justify it unless Luka told them there was no way he’d resign with Dallas. You don’t trade away a top 3 league player with generational talent in his prime for a broken Anthony Davis on his final seasons and one pick. Ridiculous. Presti would’ve gotten LA’s next 50 first round picks as compensation…
I just can’t imagine Dallas would not have gotten way better offers for good interior players in their prime and better value packages if they had put it out there that Luka was available. It is unconscionable how bad this trade was, so bad that it’s suspicious.
Nico really think they could win with a broken oft-injured, past prime Kyrie and broken, oft-injured, past prime Davis and surrounding cast of meh? Almost zero chances that both Davis and Kyrie would be available for playoff games…and oh look, they aren’t. How did Dallas not at least also extract Reaves? Wow. Casual fans with internet would’ve gotten better value.
