With the lack of talent in this year's draft, should we ditch the trade value chart?

Every video I've looked at over the week, and comments on here about the lack of TOP TIER talent in this draft just isn't there. Outside of a few blue chip players - Jenty, Carter, Graham, Hunter maybe one or two more, the rest of the guys appear to be guys you are in love with, but not deeply in love with.

The Cowboys have mentioned trading down. As fans we would love to get great value for moving down (extra second or third round pick), but would these teams be willing to give up that much in this year's draft?

On the other hand if one of these top players began to fall and Jerry's hand started to itch, would it cost us much to go up a few spots to get a falling player?? In years past I think we'd have to give up a fortune, I don't quite see that happening this year.

I've borrowed the trade chart thread from a poster on here that I live for, and he lives for me too! I'm not sure this chart gets followed this year in terms of receiving proper compensation! Please give your thoughts!

All you need to do is remember how Dallas traded back from Stephen Jackson to later draft Julius Jones. Or think about Jerry passing on TJ watt. Or Jerry really wanting a CB and wasn't even targeting Parsons.
This front office must get lucky because they don't know what they are doing.

As we all know, the draft isn't exactly a crap shoot in the first round, but even a first overall doesn't guarantee success. There's always a highly touted player who is out of the league before his rookie contract expires, then there are overachievers that nobody (except themselves) saw coming. If McMillan is available when we pick, it looks like he might be an immediate threat and a huge help to Dak. We need help at OL, WR, and the RB position. I have no idea where we get all those players, but we gotta get them somehow. With that said, while we look okay on defense, if we can't improve on stopping the run, it's going to be a long season.

Let's see, blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah. You live for someone and they live for you. Wall of text and still not sure what the question is. Guess I should take my 2 hours of sleep having rear end back to bed

Don't ditch it but be ready thay a trade down is going to be a net value loss, doesn't mean it's not a good trade just means you can't simply say the Cowboys won or lost bc of the math

The only way to know is when they actually get out there on the field. Everything else is speculation. But you gotta use the tools the best you can. I agree with you.

Yup 100 percent, I still would love to see them find a way to get 5 players in the top 100...however that means they move to do it...team needs quality bodies- bunch of 5th 6th and 7th rounder don't help

How many former first round picks did we sign this off-season. Maybe they’ll try to rejuvenate their career for one last season. It would be amazing the outcome. Or Jerry just wants to hear the entire offensive line are first round picks lol

I feel the same way about this draft, but I would not take less than the points chart indicates to move down. If course the points chart is a guideline and teams can negotiate off that but I prefer to be on the winning side of any trades. If a team isn;t willing to give up picks then maybe ask for a current player off their roster.

A scrub draft pick is no different than a scrub free agent.
It does not improve the roster and at best provides a back up role player.

At best.

Think quality not quantity.
There's an extreme lack of quality from this offseason's free agent pick ups.
They don't need a bunch more 5th to 7th rounders to just add more bodies.

Draft, lmao Jerry loves you guys. He paid dak and CD and that's it. He knows you guys are happy with that and that's all you are going to get. Sheesh, did you guys just start watching this 3rd world team last year?

It’s still probably a decent starting point for trade talks, but fan expectations should probably be lowered for a trade down. I’d expect a lot more sellers than buyers middle of round 1 unless someone unexpectedly drops.

I always wondered how do they come up with a draft has lack of talent compared to previous drafts.
I know they have analytics, and charts and all of that. And compare year to year.
Experts and scouts and such. A lot of work goes into it.

Has anyone ever gone back 5 years or 10 years after a draft, and compare the players to each other then, as to coming out of college. To see how right or wrong they were.

It may be easier to compare QB's. But all the other players, need to look at the competition they go up against.

yet somehow they're labeled as a team that drafts well!

damn man I said this yesterday, why just limit ourselves to a trade in round one??? Let's get a 5 for 3!!!! We can trade down in the first, trade down in the second. Getting us an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd/then one in the 4th or whatever floats your boat!!! Let's be active!!!!!!!!

It seems to me a draft with not much top tier talent would make the chart inaccurate when moving into or out of the top tier, but if there's only 5-6 guys like that, once they're gone the chart should still make sense relatively speaking.
