Duke Manyweather on Tyler Guyton

Guyton is surely entitled to having the upcoming season to prove himself capable of being a worthy pass protector. It wasn't exactly a secret last year when a weakness was presumed to be true. He'll most likely be granted the upcoming season to display his stuff in pass protection, whatever it may be and to what extent it exists. The upcoming season for him should prove interesting in that regard.

Let's just not focus on pass protection, let's focus on much more than that. Maturity, loving to play the game, penalties, pass blocking, run blocking, strength etc etc

There's no question that pass protection was his main problem that has been in doubt. Let's not question his run blocking when it's already been aptly displayed as his strength. Any lack of talent is bound to be an issue, since he'll be studied meticulously to start with.

There was talk about his maturity too, or his love to play the game, should we leave that alone also?

You're free to study that to your hearts delight. My main focus and many others will be on pass pro. In the event he proves immature, it's sure to be mentioned, as well as any other flaws. Try to relax, ok?

Not sure I would agree with that. He needs to significantly improve in the run game as well. I think he had some moments where he excelled in the power run game, but he really struggled on zone plays which is the bulk of run calls in this era.

That tweet from Duke is about the most meaningless, generic statement I've read this offseason. People take it and run with it because they want it to say something it doesn't...
So why in the heck did he even bother to tweet it?

Totally agree. It WAS the ONE thing this team has proven to be good at.
Until this pick. It kinda muddies the waters for me on the oline scout team honestly. A more polished product had been the Tyron, Zack, Fred and Tyler model.
The d-line scouting already sucks. I just don't want a carryover to the one thing they "had" been good at (til Guyton)is all.

His last year's tape is so bad he needs a miracle turnaround to achieve adequate status in my eyes.

As a project LT leaving SleepNumber out to dry is not the way to go in order to win games this year.

Just my opinion.
Penalties are a problem, but his play did improve as the season progressed

i get it, but im sorry. we havent won super bowls lately---so we can't have the luxury of letting guys develop. Our first round picks have to be instant impact guys. 2nd rounders must start.
Not realistic having day 1 impact starters every year in rd 1, especially one that was taken at the end of the rd

He was asked a direct question, it wasn’t unsolicited. I say Read it instead of overreacting:

The question was: “where do you think he falls on the quality starting LT scale”

Honestly don’t know”. He’s got a lot to figure out to take the leap. That’s up to him.

Did you not watch the guy yourself last year? Do you not know he has a lot to figure out if he is going to become a quality starting LT? that’s what he is saying. There is not really anything negative in his comment. He doesn’t say he won’t develop just that he has a lot to figure out first. That was known the day he was drafted. Him not ready to start year 1 was also know the day he was drafted. Read any scouting report on him. He has a lot of work to do and a ways to go. An off-season in the weight room and with the coaches may go a long way or it may not. He didn’t seem dedicated enough last year from what you heard. Will he be this year? Let’s see, but there was nothing in that comment other than I don’t know and it’s up to him.

He'll be tested when the time comes to do so. Right now, there's no way to tell if he's aptly prepared for the tests that lie ahead. According to what I've read about his past performances, his best performances came in the run blocking. It's too early for anything to be revealed as to what to expect in the future. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and wait for more info to be forthcoming.
