I Believe We Found Our Receiver

Remember Dennis Houston? Whatever happened to that guy?

Holden is a good prospect. I think he'll be a practice squad guy for a bit though.
No, heard it here he's our number 2 now and might even challenge CD for number 1. Some fans need to get a grip on a highlight reel against the likes of Hawaii.

This guy Treshon Holden was projected to be a 3rd round talent.

Turns out, he had some character issues, like spitting in a CBs face. Not cool. But if he can work through those and dedicate himself to football, he's got some serious talent and upside and it's very possible he could challenge Tolbert for targets.

We stole this UDFA. I'm calling it now. He makes the 53...

There is nothing that can be done with Holden as he believes he is a llama.

For the record, I was a Juanyeh Thomas fan before he made the team. Same for TJ Bass. I'm forgetting someone too. I mean, UDFAs can make the team.
Well don't forget technically when we're talking about undrafted tree agents you kinda have to add in UFL, right??

I mean how are those guys categorized because we have a guy in Butler with a lot of potential and we have the best kicker in the league might be debatable and the best returner in the league you want to debate that these guys came from the UFL and maybe we get a receiver from there this year I don't know what they're looking at but hell they could find a starting running back we don't know I don't know how these guys are categorized but I believe they're undrafted free agents I mean so remember that we have three players we got from there that are really good so this is not complete the rosters being built we have till September it will always be in flux especially the bottom 20 to 30 players here in camp there's going to be a lot of changes..

By the way when do those UFL players become available another seasons happening right now so it's kind of weird they'd have to be what late the camp or they might not be able to join a team until the preseason....

He was asked about this a long time ago. Said that he wrote it but there was a big stink about the assistance of AI. Some chess playing dork was dateless for the 42nd consecutive Saturday night, and ran the the statement through an AI assistance detector that spit out that 85-90% (Going from memory, but those numbers are damn close) of the letter was AI generated.

Did he write it, didn’t he write it, did someone proof read it, or hold his hand through the entire process - I have no idea. The joke around the campus was that he didn’t have human assistance due to this very line of questioning. They would have kept the meaning but modified the word choice to make it less perfect.

I hate these apologies anyway. They are always so disingenuous. Of course you’re sorry, YOU GOT CAUGHT!
They really should just have templates where you just insert names and infractions, lol

But he was good in college!

I keep hearing that here. And seeing his draft profile posted constantly.
Mingo was great in Lane Kiffin's 2 route system. But guys like that struggle with NFL corners that know how to play physically.
And alot of these guys are not built to handle the tough times. They have dominated every level so to have to struggle gets in their heads.

I get why Dallas wanted to take the moonshot guessing the Panthers QB shuffles and overall malaise were deadwood and Mingo could flourish here but reality is that was a lot of wasted targets. The fact Jerry and Stephen keep mentioning him is disheartening because lil buddy that ship has sailed. Anything good you get is an added bonus at this point.

I would legit prefer to resign unretired Michael Gallup.

Strengths

  • Touchdown-maker who averaged a TD grab for every 7.1 catches.
  • Possesses crafty elements in his route running.
  • Good spatial awareness as a zone target.
  • Catches with quick pluck-and-tuck to put it away.
  • Has footwork to stutter and sharply change direction.
  • Gets after it as a run blocker.

We had WRs on the 53 last year that didn't amount to crap. More of the same.

Mr. Holden's October 13, 2024 apology:

To my Oregon family, I am truly sorry for letting you down. You have shown me the importance of teamwork, discipline and respect, and my actions in that moment did not reflect those core principles. I recognize that this has negatively affected our team's reputation and I deeply regret putting us in that situation.
To Ohio State, I offer my sincerest apologies for my behavior. It was completely unacceptable and a momentary lapse in judgment. I want to emphasize that this incident does not reflect who I am as a person or the value I am to uphold.
Moving forward, I am committed to making meaningful changes, not only in managing my emotions during competition but in setting a better example for my teammates and the broader community. I am determined to demonstrate growth and maturity, both on and off the field and I hope I can earn back the trust of those I've let down. This incident has been a valuable lesson, and I am dedicated to becoming a better person, teammate and a positive role model in our community.

I did notice the apology's tweet (link) can no longer be found. Wonder how soon it was taken down in relation to the draft? The incident is something that is not easily forgotten. Perhaps keeping it up may have better helped his drafting opportunity as a reminder of his true character.

There is absolutely NO way the kid wrote that "apology." A publicist/agent did.

I'm totally on board with reserving team membership for people of good character, to the absolute exclusion of locker room cancers and men-children with anger management issues. Spitting in someone's face, on or off the field, isn't a "mistake", or a "momentary lapse of judgment." It's proof that you are a POS.

This has a chance

Hard to believe he dropped out of the draft for losing his cool. Yeah it was egregious unsportsmanlike conduct...but he didn't take someone's knee out or do a hit-and-run. Folks who did that STILL got drafted...

He dropped out of the draft because he is not very good

No clue how Holden will turn out, but having Junior Adams in his corner is a good start. Holden had more issues than just the spitting deal (nobody cares) and had a felony gun charge in 2023 (people care). He was released from Oregon but the charges were later dropped and he was reinstated. Regardless He's had some issues during his college career that have kept him from being 100% dedicated to football.

Junior Adams on the other hand has had no problems being 100% dedicated to football and has quietly become a fantastic coach. First with C. Kupp at Eastern Washington, later with R. Odunze, J. McMillan, J. Polk, and P. Nacuca at Washington. He had a humble start at Montana State and has slowly climbed the coaching trees of both Chris Petersen and Dan Lanning.

Holden would be fortunate to make the roster but Adams has a track record of working with this type of receiver. Nacuca while athletic was certainly not considered a quick twitch athlete. Odunze was much the same way and coveted more for his ball skills than athleticism. While Holden isn't on par with any of these guys he's here for a reason, and coach Adams is that reason. An Alabama recruit that transferred to Oregon, he obviously had a lot of talent that Adams was working to mold.

We'll see how it all pans out, but I think he'll be a practice squad guy that coach Adams will continue to work with. Possibly the special teams unit since he blocks well and has good play strength. He's the kind of player I dig as a UDFA, all reward and no risk. If he craps the bed nobody will even know he slept there. If he keeps the sheets clean he might develop into the player both Alabama and Oregon viewed him as. Keeping it close to home he reminds me a little of Noah Brown.
