Cowboys Get Alarming Draft Label From Mel Kiper

The guard will be a good player it's just they had other guys with similar grades at positions of need that would have made a difference in the W column.
Probably based on value, Jalon Walker or Tyler Warren should have been the pick. Maybe even Walter Nolen or Shemar Stewart.

I feel better about passing on Walker and Stewart after taking Ezeiruaku, who I think is the better pass rusher. Would have liked to have Nolen, but I understand the concerns about him, while Dallas went with a high-character player. Warren would have been interested but we needed a tight end less than pretty much any position in this draft.

I would have "reached" for the receiver Matthew Golden, but I can't say he was a better value than Booker, and given where he went, it doesn't seem teams valued him more than Booker.

Slightly lesser position value, greater upgrade need, though many would have considered him a reach at 12 too.

I can see them shying away from Grant as a Mazi clone from the same school. Fool me once...

I thought Grant was the obvious play too. Now I'm less sure. Maybe just getting burned by Mazi left a mark.
I don't think they were interested in an early-round NT. Nolen seemed to be the other player they were debating because he brings the ability to both rush the passer and stop the run ... when he's motivated to do so.

Booker was a great pick for Dallas, but we all know it was a reach….a safer reach than some of the higher rated players. Most think Egbuka was a reach to go as the #2 WR in the draft, but he was the safest guy.

Kiper ended up giving us a good grade on our draft.

He had a complete breakdown. Said the NFL didn't know what they were doing.
He looked and sounded like a nutcase. He said the NFL doesn’t know how to evaluate QBs. That was a pretty dumb comment.

Oh? Which player exactly? How many wins? How do you quantify that? So many questions.

We also had a Hall of Fame LT and other really good players. I think your conclusion here is off a bit.
You’re proving my point even more.

If Super Bowls were giving out to who has the best Oline then the Cowboys would’ve won about 10 straight in the Romo/Dak era.

Wasn't kiper pissed that Sanders didn't go in the first? He's trying to stay relevant
Thinking the same thing. I will take a bad grade from the guy who thought that a quarterback who takes sacks, has a slow throwing motion, and is a candid camera circus should’ve been drafted in the first round.

yeah we should not be taking Mel seriously anymore, dude has mental problems.

Exactamente

This is the same guy that looked like a complete fool as his pet boy Shadeur dropped all the way to the 5th round

Its not so much that he loved Shadeur.....its that he didn't have the insider information from nfl GMs and that's what's making him look like an idiot

Kiper is not always right, but a lot of analysts had a low 1st or 2nd round grade on Booker. His combine results are mediocre at best and his athleticism score is not very good either.

His 21 reps on the bench press is near the bottom of all offensive linemen at the combine.. This doesn't mean he won't be a good player, but it does give reason to question such an early selection in the draft.

No one really knows how any of these players will play against NFL talent. But we know that players in the NFL are bigger, faster, stronger than what they see in college.

I like Booker. I would not have drafted him at 12. I would have gone for someone more likely to make a big impact on the offense or defense. I admit at the point based on the board, I would have taken Tyler Warren. He would improve the Cowboys offense, especially in the red zone, more than Booker will. But we will find out quickly once Booker is facing Dexter Lawrence and some of the other top DTs in the league come September.

Travis Frederick did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 33" arms.
- He had dominant power in the NFL...

Tyler Booker did 21 bench reps at the combine.
- He has 34-1/2" arms.
Honestly, I'm always amazed that young, athletes weighing 300 pounds can't pretty easily do more than 20 reps of 225. I would really think 30 reps would be expected threshold.

You can walk into any gym and see normal size folks working 9-5 that can put up that much pretty easily.

21 reps at 225 is massive power. The average human being isn’t getting 1 rep in.
@thunderpimp91 - We usually agree but not on this one. When Covid hit, I was 50 years old. Fat from sitting on my butt for 30 years of office work and I was still doing sets of 10 and I was only lifting to try to keep a little definition. Focused more on flexibility and keeping all my muscle groups relatively strong.

These guys have all the best conditions to do nothing but get in fantastic shape. Everyone but specifically linemen ought to be blowing the bench press up.
