Blogging the Boys - 5 WRs Dallas Cowboys should consider trading for post-draft

If they spend draft capital on a WR at this point, to me, this would be inconsistent with their draft. They did not draft for need, the drafted for the future. So why give up draft picks now that could be used next year to continue with the same strategy they employed this year?

I would prefer they either sign a free agent who can possibly help this year, and draft a WR next year, or just stay with what they have. They made a commitment to Mingo by using a valuable 4th round pick for him, (an over compensation IMO), so why not give him a chance to compete for the job. Are we just going to throw away draft picks now?

Bingo..... you can have the injuries we had and think your play is going to remain the same. Its just not possible. Im just done arguing with those that just want to say we suck.

I remember what the predictions around here were before the start of 2014.... do you?
No I don't remember but it's unimportant I remember a lot of those years they only predicted us to win six games I mean the whole narrative used to be we're gonna be 6 and 10 every year...

They were hoping that they'd be right eventually and it's very rare that that does happen May last I checked the Cowboys are hardly ever picking in the top three or top five at the NFL draft so apparently we're not the worst team in the NFL I mean if you can win 7 games with that team last year I can at least expect to be better this year just be healthier makes you better but hey I'm not trying to make predictions but the doom and gloomers thinking we're going to finish dead last in the division and we have no talent on this team it's insane I mean Mr Gmo says we only have four good guys on this team and didn't even mention some of the better ones..

It's not a big deal again I'm not in the rankings predictions I just believe like in 2020 and like you said in other years like 2015 when you lose your quarterback you usually lose a majority of your skill players that are going down and you just end up terrible but it's easier to bounce back and you can see they bounce back not guaranteeing it, but they always seem to have a ten to twelve win season after one of those seasons like last year.

Pickens & Jameson Williams have 5th year options. So they have two years left.
Look I'm out of a loop here ,

so I don't know where this conversation started and went,

but Cowboys can't afford to use high draft picks as compensation to make one of these trades..
so they need to stick the free agency or wait till the guy is released... There's going to be more than expected it happens every year where after the draft and when they're looking at their roster there's going to be some unexpected guys released,
I mean I watched Arizona just flat out cut Hopkins when they couldn't get what they wanted for him and he was still productive at the time you find guys like that that can drop in your lap there's no reason right now to give away minicamp and OTAS you know those reps even early in training camp need to go to the young guys..
we have time to decide to bring in somebody else later but that's my opinion I believe we don't have the resources to be wasting more draft picks on a position where you can go get one in free agency or a lower trade like a 5th rounder like we did with Brandon Cooks I mean hell we gave Amari Cooper away for a 5th rounder you can find those on other teams..
I don't think the guys you're mentioning are going to be let go for a 5th rounder...

And they're going to have their hand out for big contracts soon after they arrive..

I'm not saying we don't need to address the second receiver option, but right now we can afford to wait and see what happens....

Just grab Amari and we'll be fine at WR.
Why the love affair to bring back Amari Cooper?

i'm not saying I'm against it why not Keenan Allen why not look for a team willing to get rid of a little bit younger player with more meat on them for say a 5th rounder it's happened we brought over Brandon cooked for a fifth rounder we released a Martian Cooper on a 5th rounder it happens i've seen Deandre Hopkins get released why don't we be patient and wait and see what teams are willing to give some better talent away for a 5th rounder or flat out release them there's going to be more names that add to this list besides Cooper and Allen..

I'm just curious though what is going on with want any bring back Amari Cooper because he's been here before with Prescott still doesn't make sense now he's not the same player i've always had a problem with him being a little less than motivated especially on a team that say you struggle early in games or early in the season..

I know some of the criticism he got was exaggerated but I did see that there are times where he would be not running his routes at full speed he seemed less than thrilled to be out playing in games where we got down early or he wasn't seeing the ball really weird and you can see it on his face et cetera et cetera I don't know if this is a good situation to be in this time around before we brought him over we were desperate we needed a number one he was going to get all the targets he was going to get all the attention and we turned our season around and everybody was happy but right now that may not happen early this season..

I think the difference between Coop and Allen, is Coop brings a speed element and familiarity that Allen doesn't. Allen is pretty much a TE at this point in his career. Think of Keyshawn Johnson late in his career imo. And the offense already has a possession type wr in CeeDee

As I said in another post, Jerry won't be signing anyone till after cutdown is my guess so doubt Coop would be brought back at this time.

Well, I understand some of that, but you are way off base about lamb, he's not a possession receiver ,are you kidding me? he could pretty much play all three positions inside outside slot motion he's got enough speed to go by just about anyone because of his route running.

I've never thought of Amari Cooper as fast he's also a great route runner he's a little bit bigger he's more of a possession wide receiver than lamb, I get what you're saying I don't watch a lot of Allen I know he was coming off injuries for a while but either one of these guys would have to be better than Tobert that's how who we're talking about or a combination of Tober and Turpin because if they're describing Allan like you are we could get Mingo up to speed where he is...

Well they aren't going to make a move quickly but it'll be before cutdowns I think they're looking around and talking about it so we'll see what they end up doing like I said it could be a surprise release there's going to be another player out there we didn't think of that a team let go for a 5th or just flat out releases and we pick him up so I think they should be patient give all these reps to these guys now and then bring in someone later..

Good money would bet on the Cowboys trading for the worst receiver in that group: Quentin Johnson. A first round pick that hasn't lived up to his billing? The Cowboys have a spot for you!
