Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

I think Turpin makes him expendable. If he isn't our full time returner then I don't see us having the room to keep him. Sure he is shifty and can make nice plays, but I think his size makes him a liability for the QB when he needs to block. That means he could only be in a small amount of plays and would key off the defense when he was in as well. However, Deuce has been proving people wrong his whole career and be more than fine eating these words.

I say Mighty mouse has very little value with Turpin on the roster. They are both gadget guys and special team aces. He don't block very well and what he did at Kansas state may not translate here. Now I do think McCarthy did him no favors in utilization and I agree with the bolded statement except the should be kept part.

Also having his old coach wont hurt but just looking at numbers at RB Im not sure who he beats out unless its Williams or Sanders. I guess it depends on how many the cowboys decide to keep at that position

He hasn't shown much. I am still a believer, but he needs to really prove himself. I think he is on the bubble to make the roster. With a team that has a strong interior line (or should have), I think Vaughn is suited well. More so than a big banger imo. You just can't expect him to ram guys at the line and get 2-3 yards. If you keep him free behind the line, I think his skillset really shines.

We will see. I expected him to be better in his first two years. Maybe I am wrong.

I hope he has spent his off season preparing for his life after football cause it's coming at him quick.

Yeah this is a good point. Him not contributing to special teams may make him a goner. He’s gonna have to it play JW and Sanders to make this team. And even then that may not be enough.

The quickness isn't elite enough to offset how easily he goes down with arm tackles. There are plenty of guys just as quick as him that are 20 lbs heavier and he ran a 4.56 40, which is incredibly slow for a guy who weighs 176lbs. I was so rooting for the kid year 1, but he isn't running down on kickoffs or punts so all he would be doing would be taking up a precious roster spot. PS, sure, who cares...

It's year 3 and a new staff. I don't think any one who will have a say in the roster still cares about that draft moment.
If he makes the team, great. Use him effectively. Don't try to ram a square peg into a round hole.
If he's cut, so be it. It was a 6th round draft pick.

I think someone has to be willing to carve out a specific role for him on their offense.

Not gonna happen here if it didn’t already.

He would probably be a decent KR and not end up in pieces since the coverage no longer has a 70 yard head of steam.

Not gonna happen here with Turpin around.

Deuce Vaughn's 40-yard dash time at his Pro Day was 4.46 seconds. He also ran a self-recorded time of 4.44 seconds, according to some reports. While he didn't run the 40 at the NFL Combine, he did participate in other drills, including the vertical jump and broad jump.
