Pickens appears to be a poor risk

The reality is that this pick alone won't move the needle because we have so many positions with questions such as DT, LB, RB and CB.

We've seen several off seasons where Jerry just refused to aquire starting talent via Free Agency and now it's piled up

Judge this pick merely on addressing ONE area of need.

This is a great talent, that we are taking a chance on. I'm fine with that. We have done it with TO and Dez. Although neither won us a SB, they still performed great for us.

You guys that wanted to believe in Blue, now he will have the opportunity to shine.

They invested in all 4 of those positions

Botton line is Pickens immaturity is a concern. Jane Slater says it's why BOTH sides are not interested in looking beyond this year as far as an extension. You get a sense he's not a bad kid, just needs to grow up and understand how his behavior impacts others. I def think the risk/reward for a 3rd round pick is worth it 100%.......

Just read he and another teammate spent T'giving in 2023 with Tomlin and his family. Remember, the Steelers don't have a QB. It would not surprise me if Tomlin didn't advise him that a trade would be best to max his potential.

Where exactly was ‘Cowboys insider’ Jane Slater when yet more big news was announced?

Oh, yeah. Nowhere.

Exactly this will open up the offense and spread out defenses. It's a win win. Even if only for a year.

He's a 24 year old immature dude . But immensely talented. Off the field, not one major issue. No arrests. Nothing. I think the risk is ok. If anything, we get 1 outstanding rental with wonderful production and a comp pick if he walks.
And he’s in a contract year and needs to have his best season ever - in ALL areas.

And I firmly believe that the team will have a group of people working with him to maximize his abilities while trying to minimize his emotional outbursts.

Dak and Lamb as current players, and former players like Michael Irvin as well.

I think they have a plan.

Not only are we giving up a 3rd and a 5th next year but we basically are signing him for only one season. On a team that isn’t one player away.

His rookie deal runs out and why Steelers traded him as he seems unwilling to negotiate. On top of that he’s a head case. His emotions are difficult to keep in check.

He was fined for using an expletive on his eye black against the Cowboys. He also drew wide spread criticism in 2023 for what could generously be described as the attentive downfield blocking for his teammates.

Considering his volatility, the Steelers didn’t seem interested in signing Pickens to a contract extension running out of patience for the talented but mercurial former 2nd round pick. A 3rd and 5th looks like they found an anxious taker.
exactly. this was a short term move for jerry to generate hope and excitment for this year. not a long term look at team building.
next year, jerry will deal with it then. lets maximize profits this year.

Now, whether the draft picks traded will be justified remains to be seen and it is easy to understand why some fans may not be happy with the trade.

My only real concern is that I do not want to see them give him a new contract before he plays this season.

While I wish they had gotten a more reliable receiver, I am glad the Cowboys at least did something other than hoping one of their non-Lamb roster guys turns into a great player.
I understand the concerns, also but like you, I'm just happy to see them finally try and add a significant player from the outside. I get a sense they ARE not going into this blind blind-sided. They are well aware of his immaturity and behavior issues. I do think it's possible if he balls out and shows improvement, they would consider using the tag before giving him a long-term deal. In other words, we like what you have done, but let's see you do it one more year.

If he's awful, which I doubt, and leaves after the season and signs elsewhere, he'll probably land them a 2027 5th rd comp pick. If he's very good and leaves he'll probably land them a 2027 3rd rd comp pick. Hey if Brian is going to be the king of culture and all that, they need to be able to handle a non perfect citizen player. His skills are undeniable. If he falls in line, they'll find the money to keep him and have a top 5 duo for a few years. I am perfectly fine with the risk/reward factor.
you just made it worse. we had a mid 3rd round pick and if in the best case scenario end up with top of the 4th round pick (essentially the best comp pick being called a 3rd is actually top of 4th since we pick after the 32nd pick of the 3rd round).

so one year deal. not a championship team. trade a pick for a lower pick and get nothing....awsome team building approach!!!!!

its a secret plan that nobody understands but Jerry!!!
