TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

That's not the whole story. It's a great move because the Cowboys could extend him or get a comp pick if he leaves. So there is little risk here.
Yeah not sure I agree with that. The comp pick is unknown right? So if they trade a 3rd for what turns out to be a 5th and if Pickens has a mediocre year, that's a terrible trade. This team needs to acquire picks not give them away.

lets say there are no comp picks. third round ends after pick 96. 4th round begins pick 97.
now, a 3rd comp pick is after pick 96, and its pick 97. essentially a 4th round pick. now you want to add more picks to the round to call it 3rd rounder. then do so if it makes you feel better. but its pick 97 at best. after every team has picked in the 3rd round.

and does the GP trade get us any closer to superbowl? then why make the move and move lower in the round for a one year rental. if your goal is to win regular season and your championship is having made the playoffs, then great. but if your goal is actual superbowl, then I ask again, were we one player away from a superbowl?

its a win. lose.....marketing wins. team goes nowhere fast. gets a lesser pick regardless of what round you want to call it.
Is it a day two pick? What rounds are picked on day two? Do you really think there's a huge difference between a late round 3rd or a mid round third? Hint: There isn't. Does GP get us closer to the SB? Yes, he improves the team. Do I think they're winning the SB? No I don't. But to sit here and says GP doesn't improve the team is just idiotic. And this has nothing to do with Jerry and his idiot son. They're the reason why we've been in a drought for 30 years, but I can also recognize a positive move when I see it. This offseason has been very positive compared to the last 5-10.

Is it a day two pick?
Which day the pick is on is irrelevant…If you added rounds 4-7 to day 2, that doesn’t automatically make a draft pick in round 7 more valuable than it was when round 7 was still on day 3. And pick #106 is less valuable than pick #86, regardless of the rounds in which the picks take place. That shouldn’t really be debatable.

The only questions are 1) how likely is it that Dallas gets a 3rd round comp pick if Pickens bolts, and 2) if they do, what would Pickens have to contribute or produce in his one season to be worth that lower draft pick. The 1st question is impossible to answer; way too many moving parts. The 2nd question has a lot of possible scenarios to consider.

Pickens, though, has a ton of talent…and the best case scenarios are REALLY good. They’re not likely lol…but they’re really good.

He’s immature and a head case.

That 3rd round pick is gone.

Just like GP after the season.

Fans hating on Mingo and Lance for a 4th. 8)

Wow, it get's worse
Here’s the context of draft pick comp:

In 2024, Gave Davis signed for 13m$ a year. That got the Bills a 5th round pick. If Pickens leaves in FA in 2026, the comp pick would come in 2027. By then the salary cap inflation would be that Davis comp pick is well over 15m$ a year. So for a 4th we’re likely looking at over 20m$ a year. For a 3rd we’re likely looking at over 25, 26, 27m$ a year.

With his rocky history in Pittsburgh and being a #2 in Dallas, what kind of season would he have to have where teams would jump at the chance to pay him Amon Ra money? 1300 yards? More?

So if he leaves, it’ll very likely be a 5th or 6th rounder, possibly a 4th rounder if he minds his P’s and Q’s and balls out as CD’s Robin (or CD gets hurt and George takes over the passing game).

Not only that, but since FA’s signed count against your possible comp pick, Jerruh would have to go “all in” again and pretty much sign no one of any real value next offseason…which he has no problem doing lol. Either that or make some big trades again instead of sticking to the draft.

Not really. They could use the franchise tag on him over the next couple of years. It would actually be smarter than a long-term deal. The tag for WR in 2025 is $21M, but he's playing this season, the final year of his rookie deal, for about $4M. So if we tag after this season and again 2027 ....

current salary............................$4M
2026 franchise tag estimate $22.5M
2027 franchise tag estimate $23.3M

Total over 3 years $49.8M = an average of approx $16-17M per season

Fair enough. I’m ok if they go that route

Then I think this trade is dreadful if that is the case

We will never pick in the 4th round again.
This is why Jerry gave them a 3rd. He was tired of fans whining about not having a 4th round pick. So he gave them a 3rd and a 5th. It averages out to a 4th. (yes I know it does not work that way)
So he fooled you all.

He will get a new contract somewhere.

Wait till he starts throwing his “fits” on the Oxnard practice fields this Summer, or in games.

Even Tomlin couldn’t fix his head.

So much for the new team culture fans were talking about last week.
Tomlin is overrated by fans on here. Been a very good HC, but maybe not as good as many make him out to be. As far as communicating with the players as far as discipline.

Yeah, I avoided that part because it involves FA and… Cowboys

Pickens improves the team.
Why are fans that do not like this trade, so hung up on the comp pick he may bring, thinking it will be lower.

Are they the same ones that whine about the FO loving their comp picks?

During the draft, some fans were ok with giving up a 2nd round pick for Pickens. Now they do not like the trade at all.
Fickle fans.
If another team made this trade, they would bash Jerry for not doing it.

Did we give up all those picks for a players last year. Then if he a hit then we are out of the picks and he will want a payday.

Tomlin has 3 playoff wins in the last 10 years. They haven't won one playoff game since 2017. Tomlin is like a lot of other coaches. He was only great when he had a HOF talent at QB. He would have been fired years ago if he coached in Dallas. So yes, he is overrated.

Under the current draft structure its a 3rd round pick, which is picked on day two. You can try to massage it all you want, but a pick at the end of round 3 is a 3rd round pick.

Some people are just never happy. GP represents a pretty low risk upgrade, even if it's only one year given the comp pick program.
