Pickens is worth the gamble!

It's not going to end well with Pickens. He is a head case, but Jerry succeeded in hyping the fan base.

The effort matters. Maybe the results won't end well , fine, but at least Jerry has awoken from his stuper to actually try. I can't fault this. I can fault the horrible crap of not trying last year .

I wanted a defensive HC that ran a 3-4 scheme. My research discovered teams who played in the 3-4 scheme who had big personnel were the teams that were the best stopping the run. Unfortunately, they basically have reverted back to the Quinn/Marinelli scheme. When the scheme works it is excellent stopping the pass, but it is very suspect stopping the run.

Would of taken either Grant or Harmon over the Guard at 12. Wanted Ty Williams or UCLA LB at 44, but both were long gone, even Collins from Texas was off the board. However, we have to understand that this defensive scheme doesn't value a true NT and wants to create quick up the field pressure. Reason why we saw them showing more interest in 3T's.

Eberflus version of Marinelli's scheme has been better stopping the run, he always has valued the Linebacker/3T positions which are the key to his scheme. His nickel corner is a big part to his run defense as well. I think have to see how Eberflus scheme does first before overhauling the run defense. Zimmer made some adjustments that helps schematically, let's see if Eberflus can do the same. One of these year's we will hit with one of these late NT's.

This group of staff built up strength of a high end offense, where direction has taken the current NFL. Sport dominant concept, not popularity contest.

This group has built up the linebacker group and forges it's own direction. This is a strong linebacker group and connects the secondary and defensive line. Both the secondary and defensive lines are dominant parts.

On the defensive line, they have very strong starting defensive ends and a Pro Bowl level defensive tackle.
This while the safeties and cornerbacks are strength of their own talent. I'm not concerned with direction of cap demands in this season.

What was lingering, was strength at offensive tackle and a non-yielding defensive tackle against the run.

All of that has received focus and currently is being worked upon. Both of these needs have first round players, and products of strong evaluation processes as well as within the 3 year of development long ago established conceptually by Bill Parcells and in Dallas, concept from back with Tom Landry.

Let the man, grow.

DT Smith has mishandled when coaches attempted to make a light tackle out of a interior defensive tackle. His time table is not just a number and he is again growing using his natural strengths as well abilities. The current staff uses his very strengths and will start to regrow him to their current scheme. That is not a loss.

If Dallas was a player away from being a serious SB contender, yes a good gamble. They are not. Gave away a possibly high 3rd round pick for a likely one year rental who your QB will ignore. Dak looks for CeeDee, TE or RB in his progression on a panic-free day.

Dallas will not afford Pickens next season.

His attitude will fluctuate according to the win-loss record and his touches. If we're winning and he gets his touches, he'll be okay. If we're losing and he's not getting his touches, he's going to be, well, touchy, and we'll see the George that made Tomlin want to get rid of him.

Either way, the Cowboys upped their news relevance for the offseason and into the new season, AGAIN!

"I like the swag, there's a lot of new players I've been meeting. I feel like they have a good thing going, for sure."

Reporters tried to get him to go into detail about his days in Pittsburgh, but Pickens wouldn't bite in terms of saying anything negative.

"I'm where I'm at right now. I can't look into the past," Pickens said.

"This game is just as much of a business as it is football," he added. "(The trade) was kind of out of my control. I'm just glad to be here in Dallas and continue the winning culture that they have."

While he's in Dallas for 2025, Pickens' future remains murky.

The former second-round pick is entering the final year of his contract, and there has been no indication that the Cowboys will extend him before that happens. Pickens says he isn't worried about that right now.

- Arguably one of the best deep ball WRs in football
- Big time red zone weapon
- Brings Dez like fire to the O
- Still on rookie deal
- Plus ability against man
- Plus run blocker

Negatives:
- Not a good route runner
- Dak likes to play on schedule - can he be where he needs to be?
- Not a good separator
- Unneccasey penalties
- Fines for being late to meetings and even games
- Has called out OC / QBs
- Off teams boards as a prospect due to character concerns
- Has been benched due to lack of effort

IMO high risk / reward signing. Can he be dependable? Will he throw a tantrum when Lamb gets most of the targets? Will he impact the culture we’re trying to build?

His talent is unquestionable. He’s a straight up ball winner that when he’s locked in will beat 1:1s when Lamb is eating double teams. I would’ve gone a different direction but I applaud the front office for at least swinging the bat and trying.
