TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

Here’s the context of draft pick comp:

In 2024, Gave Davis signed for 13m$ a year. That got the Bills a 5th round pick. If Pickens leaves in FA in 2026, the comp pick would come in 2027. By then the salary cap inflation would be that Davis comp pick is well over 15m$ a year. So for a 4th we’re likely looking at over 20m$ a year. For a 3rd we’re likely looking at over 25, 26, 27m$ a year.

With his rocky history in Pittsburgh and being a #2 in Dallas, what kind of season would he have to have where teams would jump at the chance to pay him Amon Ra money? 1300 yards? More?

So if he leaves, it’ll very likely be a 5th or 6th rounder, possibly a 4th rounder if he minds his P’s and Q’s and balls out as CD’s Robin (or CD gets hurt and George takes over the passing game).
Anything north of 20-22M and it could easily be a 3rd round pick.

Yeah not sure I agree with that. The comp pick is unknown right? So if they trade a 3rd for what turns out to be a 5th and if Pickens has a mediocre year, that's a terrible trade.
If they gave up a 3rd and only get back a 5th then they do.

They took a chance and traded for 1st round talent and it only cost them a 3rd.

That's a pretty good gamble considering getting a 5th back is the worst case scenario.

To each his own but I would rather have the pick for the future as opposed to wasting future assets on a season where we are realistically going nowhere.

Pickens improves the team.
Why are fans that do not like this trade, so hung up on the comp pick he may bring, thinking it will be lower.

Are they the same ones that whine about the FO loving their comp picks?

During the draft, some fans were ok with giving up a 2nd round pick for Pickens. Now they do not like the trade at all.
Fickle fans.
If another team made this trade, they would bash Jerry for not doing it.
Fans get hung up on most things. I tend to ignore that as much as I can for the sake of having good conversations. The conversations about Pickens should have little to do with his compensation. We needed a legitimate No. 2 to Lamb and we got that. Now, he comes with some baggage or he would not have been available to us, but at least the Cowboys are trying.

That doesn't change the fact that other areas that are more neglected may come back to haunt us, but we all knew receiver was one of those areas ... and now it shouldn't be unless Pickens goes off the rails, which isn't likely in a contract year.

Do you pay that though to a malcontent who was putting up 800-1000 yard seasons as his team’s only serious receiving threat?

Previously years are very cloudy as to what his actual value is. This year will have the most m significant impact on his next contract

.....I knew Pickens was good, but he's actually DAMN good. Hopefully, Jerry hit one out of the park.

His numbers should fall a little because a) we have a legitimate No. 1 receiver on the other side and b) (if) No-Schott is serious about wanting to be a running team. Frankly, b) could go out the window if the backs we have can't produce and that's a possibility with two vets coming off poor YPCs for two straight years, two rookie third-day picks and a diminutive roster holdover who also was a third-day pick.

How do we know that? Seriously.

What if he and CD have issues? What if he and Dak have issues? What if he goes after Schoty?
What if he turns out to just be a cancer?

We have no idea, other than he had issues in Pitt.

Schot wants to be a running team, right? Does that mean less passing? Presumably. That means less balls for CD. Less balls for Fergy. Two guys Dak loves. Hows Pickens going to feel about 5 targets a game? On his final year where hes looking to put up huge numbers so he can get paid.

Our defense will be bottom 10. We'll be implementing a new offense, run focused and we still have Dak. We have about a 5% chance to make the playoffs.

This is just Jerry trying to seem relevant. He heard the outrage of not having a "#2" WR, even though Steph seems to disagree. So he went out and threw away a couple more draft picks to appease the sheep. A 1 year rental that will be taking reps away from someone who may be on the team in 2027.

This organization is a fraud. Jerry is incapable of building a team. But he sure can sell that snake oil. Enjoy!!!

Exactly. It's a terrible trade aka another "Jerry Special" for a team that is going nowhere this year and should be thinking about the future.

He’s a 2nd round pick, like Mingo.

3rd wound picks are usually 4 year players.

We are buying TDs, like Moneyball.

Maybe 5 TDs?

He leaves as UFA after the season.

That is up to you to feel that way.
I choose to look at the upside and not always to the downside.
I refuse to feel miserable all the time about what has transpired this off season.

No, I am not happy with the past so many years. But that is in the past. I can’t change that no matter how much I whine. So I choose not to.

Did you not see the part about the future? I would not mortgage the future for a present that will top out at mediocrity even with the addition of a troubled WR.
So a 3rd round pick where theirs a good chance you get it back is mortgaging the future?

I supported Jones for many years. Defended him. Assuming that any competent businessman with a football past who surrounded himself with football guys could grow into at least a passable GM.

I WAS WRONG.

And not only that, he has disgraced a franchise that Tom Landry coached for decades. Maybe its too personal for me. I moved to Texas to be closer to the team I loved.

Jerry makes me sick, literally. I cant stand his face, his impropriaties, his narcissism, his nepotism.

So yeah, Im a little negative. I dare him and his idiot sons to prove me wrong. Double dog dare even.
