I know he plays Right Guard and Tyler Booker was just drafted. He’s coming off a knee injury but looking at his IG he’s walking around fine. He adds to the nastiness of the OL . And I’m in favor of the top 5 starting even if you gotta move guys around (Guyton) or to the bench (Steele) . Plus his OLine coach at Arizona is our new OC.

Sounds crazy since they have about 15 guards on the roster BUT I wouldn't be against it as I believe plan B for Guyton is to move Tyler Smith out to LT. Having Hernandez and Booker at guard in that situation sounds better than any current combo.

Jethro would rather see Dak in traction then admit he made a mistake on Guyton

ts too early to say he’s a mistake. First year starting at LT when he played RT in college, he was bound to struggle. Let’s see what he does this year before we label him

This was my thinking as well. Hernandez would be a nice add to factor into a ‘Plan B’ with Guyton at left tackle.

If Guyon doesn’t look good, they can shift Tyler Smith over there and put Hernandez in at left guard.

Or:

They could even allow Tyler Booker to play left guard, easing his transition to the pros and having to flip to the right side and just plug Hernandez in at right guard. That’s where he played most recently with Arizona.

Good point.

Hadnt thought of that angle. I wonder how stubborn they will be about moving Smith if Guyton isn’t cutting it, and to what degree his contract might figure in.

This team with wanting to run the ball and it’s weapons etc sure has its question marks at both tackle spots.

Most around here want Smith at guard, but he very well may be the best LT on the roster and how is that not a priority, especially if the QB is physically limited?

I’d still have to think that if Hernández was in the plans he would be here already.

why exactly do we need to RGs?

That’s a distinct possibility, but it also could be related to his injury last season. Teams may be waiting until he’s 100%.

There’s certainly a natural connection to our offensive coordinator.

Not going to happen. They brought in too many Gs in FA and they drafted a presumed great one in Booker. No way they spend the $ on WH.

Another thing that’s not gonna happen, but I’d actually go with Booker at LG since he played there in college. I’m sure he can make the transition eventually if need be but we saw last year that asking guys to switch sides and also excel immediately can be a challenge.

Seems like Booker is expected to be an immediate dominant player, at least in the run game. I’d keep him where he is probably more comfortable for now.
Don’t know that they need two first round guards while having tackle questions anyway.

Smith is the best LT they have, and who knows how limited Dak may be with his legs.

I’d go with….Smith/Booker/Bebee (which ought to be real solid and handle Daks blind side) then Bass or Hoffman at RG, and Steele at RT (probably gone after this year) unless Guyton can beat him out. That also puts Guyton back on the right side. Richards can back up at LT.

I just hope it doesn’t come down to being stubborn and forcing Guyton into the lineup if he still isn’t ready, and/or not wanting to pay Smith LT money. Neither is a reason to potentially toss your season away because your QB was torn in half due to his blindside not being handled properly.

I love the left side to center but that’s an awfully shaky right side.

I’m a big Hoffman fan, but he’s too inconsistent for me to plug him in at right guard. And I think his struggles would affect Steele as well. Steele seems to need stability lined up next to him.

Yes even Tyron Smith was only meh his first year when he played RT before being switched the next year to LT back in the day. Got to give him time before writing him off

I don't see it happening. We have two starters that are locked in, and 2-3 backups who each could pretty much give us starter-caliber snaps if called upon. I think Bass proved that he is a legit NFL starter. Hoffman and Asim are probably a notch below that level, but they're no Chaz Greens either.

Point being, we just don't need another guard.
