I Still Want Dallas To Get Will Hernandez

Did his agent overplay his contract demands?

I know he wasn't the guy originally expected, but still was a starter. Injury lingering?

Yes even Tyron Smith was only meh his first year when he played RT before being switched the next year to LT back in the day. Got to give him time before writing him off
he was better than that and MUCH better than Guyton was
but then Guyton did not even have a full college season at RT and then they put him at LT. Insane

I mean, another guard?
No offense but I was okay with Hoffman, Bass and the 3 FA guard acquisitions pre-draft.
I thought they had plenty then.

I sure hope Riley was hired for this type reason.

I'll make this quick hard pass we've already addressed and over addressed the inside interior of our offensive line..

I've read what some people said in here they don't trust Hoffman are you crazy he's got the same physicality he's got the right demeanor and he plays solid football he doesn't need to be a pro bowler he very well could be the right or left guard easily I would trust him to do that but we also brought in Jones we have Nate Thomas we brought in the guy that I can't pronounce his name at all we still have bass on this team I mean how many more guards do we need??

absolutely not.. hard pass

If they did anything and bringing in alignment he'd have to be a tackle in my opinion we've got so many options elsewhere for inside interior OL.. It's the tackle position that we should address if needed or maybe Nick Chubb at running back maybe a corner because we got injuries all over that but a guard that is coming off an injury that someone witnessed was walking correctly are you kidding me heck no hell no no no no..

I know he plays Right Guard and Tyler Booker was just drafted. He’s coming off a knee injury but looking at his IG he’s walking around fine. He adds to the nastiness of the OL . And I’m in favor of the top 5 starting even if you gotta move guys around (Guyton) or to the bench (Steele) . Plus his OLine coach at Arizona is our new OC.
Think more that if put Hernandez at LG and move Tyler Smith to LT and then have Guyton play RT. You have a better line up by cutting Steel. However it seems that Steel is being acknowledged as a leader there so I doubt anyone is added considering the cost

I love the left side to center but that’s an awfully shaky right side.

I’m a big Hoffman fan, but he’s too inconsistent for me to plug him in at right guard. And I think his struggles would affect Steele as well. Steele seems to need stability lined up next to him.
Yeah very true with that right side. They are probably thinking the same….but they are also probably thinking they are set at guard. Bass/Hoffman/Richards are capable backups but ideally none of them have to start.

If theres only money for one more player…it’s gotta be Reader if they can get him. Maybe Gilmore. Comes down to trusting the depth at those spots over guard.

A lot rides on Guyton and his development, and how stubborn they are going to be about admitting the mistake if the light still hasn’t gone on.

To be fair the dude got thrown directly into the fire last last year, and appears willing to put in the work. So we will see.

Quality depth is a luxury in the NFL.

Hernandez would be quality depth. I'd love this too. He has that nasty attitude like Hoffman.

Plus, Hernandez knows Adams, so he can help the other guys learn the system faster.

But is there room for him? Probably not. It's too bad.

If he could somehow backup Steele at RT, that would be GREAT but he's an OG. Doesn't have the speed to kick out to RT

It's currently May 12 and Will Hernandez is still unsigned.

Unless 32 NFL front offices have no clue, I can't see how he would be an upgrade over what Dallas can already choose from at guard.

Sounds crazy since they have about 15 guards on the roster BUT I wouldn't be against it as I believe plan B for Guyton is to move Tyler Smith out to LT. Having Hernandez and Booker at guard in that situation sounds better than any current combo.
The QB is going to need a Mark Zuckerberg Hawaii estate style wall to protect him - get as much beef to keep that over hyped spare upright.

You want to put a guard at RT or LT?

Obviously I’m guessing, but he probably wants like 6-8 million as lower end starter money, and teams… as of now, are probably willing to go 2-3 as vet backup money.

Probably wants to wait it out until a contender loses a starting guard and then maybe meet in the middle or he gets his money.

Big guy vets probably don’t mind missing a little camp either.

Plausible.

Difficult for Dallas to promise him much of anything now since he is guard only, and the current starters are Smith and Booker.

I think your salary numbers are off.

Will Hernandez, an offensive lineman for the Arizona Cardinals, has a current contract with a two-year, $9 million value. The contract includes a signing bonus of $2.5 million and a fully guaranteed salary of $2 million in 2023. Hernandez is also projected to have a market value of around $4.3 million per year on a new contract, according to Spotrac.

He didn’t approach that amount of money when he was younger and healthier.

Hence the term guessing lol. I should have passed on offering numbers, but my actual point was about him likely wanting more than teams are willing to pay and he is willing to wait and gamble. Teams aren’t passing because he can’t play anymore, just wants more than they are willing to pay at this point.

I’m wondering if he’s not quite 100% healthy and teams are waiting until he is.

Well we all have to wonder this is guys nut Nick Chubb and others that sit out there and everyone scratching their head it's not uncommon for some of these veterans to not come in until after camp some of it by choice some of them don't want to go through camp but teams are right now trying to learn what they got from the draft and tree agency and then they'll get a better idea here in the coming month of what they actually need and if they need it then they go to that leftover free agent pool of players out there which there's quite a few that are still worthy of picking up....

Other teams also realized that at cut downs there's a lot of good players released or that you can pick up for a 5th or 6th rounder if you just be patient and I imagine the Cowboys like most teams are going to be patient now they're going to go through all these camps and see what they actually have and what might be missing or what might need to be changed but if we're going to bring in another player it's going to be a corner or it could be Nick Chubb but there's no way in my opinion that they're even considering another guard...

Hernandez is not considered one of the better OGs. That’s why he’s still out there. I doubt we are even considering him. If we are looking at anything, it’s probably DT or MLB.

Guard Will Hernandez is among the NFL's most underrated offensive linemen: Since joining the Cardinals in 2022, Hernandez owns a 76.0 PFF pass-blocking grade, which ranks ninth among guards, and has allowed pressure on 4.2% of pass plays (17th).

Maybe. One side is waiting and has their reasons. I’m sure he has offers that he doesn’t like.

Don’t want to use the lazy “we like our guys” quote, but in this case it’s probably the case for Dallas for now on the OL.

I’d say it’s almost a definite that Hernandez gets more elsewhere than Stevie is willing to part with.

I’d rather overpay for a DT upgrade and take my chances with the OL. They acquire Reader and I just
might just be pulled back in also.
