Which New Additions Can Help vs the Run?

31st in points allowed is a concern. You'd think a defense with Parsons on it would be higher.

Particularly when the offense went from averaging 30.1 ppg in 2023 … to 20.6 ppg in 2024 (just 17.9 ppg at home).

Why do you think I'm always screaming for DT's? It's not a thing, it's a need that I see. Until we address it(No, not w/ 7th rounders and castoffs), Parsons won't be maximized to full potential.

Hankins when we had him was a good solid player. Strong and hard to move. Nowhere near a top DT. But still made a real difference.
That is what ticks me off. It would not have cost much to get someone like him but the circus jerks did not bother

Well, I'm not sure it will happen, but I really hope Mazi can help with this. I'm not holding my breath, though.

He need to to get back to full beef…..not holding my breath though. He shows flashes in some games, but in others he just doesn’t have it,…he has to want it.

I know Sanborn is pretty good against the run. I think Toia might help but may also need time to develop. And Turner is also pretty solid at run defense, although not much of a pass rusher.

Donovan Ez is strong against the run as well on edge.

As far as run stopping goes Toia just needs to keep linebackers free, which he did very well in college.

And let's not discount Eberflus.

In 2017, the Colts' run defense ranked 26th in the NFL teams averaged 4.0 yards per carry and gave up 99 rushing first downs


In 2018, under Eberflus, the Colts' run defense ranked 8th in the NFL by they did not allow a single 100-yard rusher throughout the season.

Adding Whitecotton to coach the DL, there is good reason to expect improvement against the run.

We had a revolving door at CB all season too.

Many contributing factors, not just one DE.

Exactly all he needs to do in his limited snaps. He anchored a D that gave up a whopping 1.6 yards per carry keeping LB clean.

IMO one of Dallas weaknesses in the run has been on the edge.

When Parsons gets run on, he isn't the best at setting the edge. Cardinals 2 years ago ran on his side often.
Against the Ravens, Dallas edge ate on a lot of inside fakes and left the edge wide open.

Fowler is back, but he's more of a pass rusher than run stopper. Same with EZ, at least early on.

Will linebackers with more a run first mindset help? Sure, but if the line can't win their battles or be in the right spot, it can be a mess again. Mazi could become a legit 1 tech but if the edge is open all day, he can't be superman and run down a RB headed to the 7 or 8 gap

Sam Williams is by far our best edge run stopping edge DE. If his knee holds up and he comes out with something to prove, he will be huge helping stop the edge rushing.

Brother, I really like both of our rookie 7th round pick DTs!!!

NT Jay Toia is a plug and hard to move inside. Exactly what we've needed for years. Check him out...





And DT Tommy Akingbesote is not that bad either...

Parsons is pretty weak against the run. He gets a pass from most, but he really needs to improve. It's just, he likely won't.

As a central PA native who grew up watching him play in Harrisburg and at Penn State, I have said all along, even before we drafted him, that what he does best is attack the football. He shouldn't be lined up at the same spot every play. He needs to be allowed to free lance, to be able to see it and attack it. That's when he's most dangerous. As great as he is at rushing the QB, having him at DE every down is actually a determent to what he can do. It sets him up to be schemed out of the play.
That's why I'm really hoping these additions to DE will allow Flus to let him do just that. If Fowler, Kneeland, Turner and EzRockU can hold the edges and get pressures of their own it can free up Micah to be his best.
He needs to be let lose, to be able to just blow things up every play. Regardless if it's a run or a pass he will cause havoc, if you let him.

not one player. the whole defense. and one player is not going to fix the defense. we replaced a bunch of JAGS at LB, with a whole new bunch of JAGS. didn't fix DT problems. the safties were bad before, now a year older, still bad. and top 3 CBs are coming off major injuries.

the offense should be ok.

I'm not celebrating anything, or in your world is pointing out a fact a celebration?

The post I was originally responded to seemed to be shocked that simply because we had Parsons the avg points per game was somehow higher than it should have been.

I was simply pointing out he is but 1 of 11 actually more with rotations playing Defense. And this could not be personally responsible for all of those scores especially the ones he didn't even play in.

You opted to jump in on that conversation and make false claims or at least allude to false claims or mentioning Detroit a game Parson did not play in, invent entirely new meanings for words or celebration means pointing out facts. Then couldn't resist bringing up Dak in a conversation about Defense.
