CW: DJ Reader Projected to be Cowboys Target

If he's not starting, they would probably wanna give his snaps to a younger player........future potential
Maybe, but I would think they'd want to have a strong four-man rotation so none of those big men get worn down. I mean, we wish we had a four-man DT rotation that looks like theirs. They can actually bring their young players along more slowly because they have Reader and McNeill, while we're hoping our seventh-round picks turn out to be good ones because we have to have contributions from some unknown, whether it's Toia, Akingbesote or last year's later-rounder.

Why do this before you even see if the in-house people have improved?
because if you can get an immediate upgrade at minimal cost you do it

and right now Reader would be the best DT we have; maybe OSA but that is about it.

In house has shown NOTHING as regards stopping the run; so time for new blood.

Our Two 7th rd picks should NOT be expected to do much; counting on them would be STUPID

Can Hankins still play the run? I think something was up with him off the field somewhere because he was a good player for us.

Again, you wait to see what they have first. Who said count on them? Yall have to stop being so emotional on this website smh.

With each passing day I become more interested in Reader becoming a Dallas Cowboys player. Even if he is merely a rental.
we have a lot of rentals on the team this year. so expect replacing current JAGs, with bunch of other JAGs next year.

but I agree, I wouldn't mind reader. it would improve the DT position greatly

He's already listed as a cut candidate. Yall want to rush to make trade deals but then talk down on Jerry. This board is so funny man.
I know of a few people who never talk down on Jerry -- one being Mike Fisher.

Are you saying Mazi is a cut candidate?

He is if he hasn't shown significant improvement. Same way taco got cut after 3rd year preseason. I don't get this rush to get reader like he's the only guy they could trade for.

I can't speak for everyone, Guru, but I think most would be interested in a trade for a late pick before he is released in order to avoid a free agent bidding war.

I for one am interested in Reader as an upgrade to the defense and roster as a whole. I want to see what Dallas has at DT in TC. But, if the Lions are going to release Reader, I'm sure the Lions will want something. Offering a late pick (6th or 7th round) or even one of the three projected 5th round picks Dallas has in 2026 in order to take on his reasonable $7MM 2025 salary versus having to pay him free agent prices on the open market would be prudent.

All I'm saying is, Dallas should see what they have in-house, but if an opportunity presents itself to add talent, keep your eyes open.

It remains to be seen if Reader is even a potential cut candidate. So who knows. But, I would definitely be interested in the player if he is a cut candidate.

If hes available for a favorable deal sure but I'm willing to bet most fans would be willing to get bent over by detroit out of desperation when there's no need for it in May or even July
