Video: Phil Mafah vs Notre Dame

Yep I agree. He’s been relatively healthy hasn’t he though?

That’s the thing about him and Javonte,…both looked like the worst backs on their teams roster so it’s tough to blame their teams for their production.
Javonte is young, he was a nice player before, and he’s over a year removed from his ACL injury.

Hes going to be solid at worst.

Miles Sanders is probably just done.

My only hope with Sanders is he just mailed it in with Carolina and he’s all in again.

Javonte was bad when I’ve seen them. I get the promise from his rookie season it’s still a tall task to ask him to return to that. I think with backs in the case of Miles…when it goes it goes. Hope he has something left but typically we know how this story goes.

I’ll just focus on the positives..

I think he’s a little more elusive than you think.

He’s got a little better acceleration than you think.

But the key with this player is getting him to build momentum. If he builds momentum he’s dangerous.

This is where our interior OL comes in.

Mafah’s limitations can be reduced if our very talented interior OL can maul people right in the middle of the defense and get Mafah room to go downhill right away.

That's it

I think Mafah ends up on the PS.

They seem to really like Williams for some reason. Blue is likely a lock. There was chatter that the front office thinks Sanders' issues last year was due to the Carolina issues so who knows. Like you I could see a cut but something tells me they will give him every chance to make the roster as they may want some real vet depth opposite Blue.
Someone has to play special teams, though. Neither vet back will do that. Neither will most of our backup WRs. Mingo won't, and Tolbert has proven to be mostly worthless there. Brooks does, but they might not think he's talented enough for WR.

I think they'll keep Williams, but Sanders I'm not so sure about. I never thought he was that good anyway and now he's older.

I think Luepke and Vaughn are better as well. Vaughn I get it….but his college production was solid.

I’m more frustrated that a 7th rounder is even in this discussion. Has to be better out there..guys like Mafah represent the Lance Dunbar, Rod Smith’s…there’s a place for them but behind a Demarco or Zeke.
Give him a chance. He doesn't have to be a lead back he just needs to be a solid contributor. If he isn't, then yes, our RB room is most likely underwhelming.

It’s nothing against him. He could be Derrick Henry. I don’t like how they’ve addressed that position. They think anyone can run behind this line.
