News: Proposal to ban tush push FAILS by two votes, sources say

Of the nine teams that voted not to ban the play, eight of them don’t play the Eagles this season. Have to believe that crossed their minds. Tip of the hat to the Detroit Lions. They have to play the Eagles this season. Of course, the Commanders have to play them twice. Have to believe that crossed their minds.

Interesting. Seven AFC team owners to only three NFC owners. Of the later voters, one each is from the South, North and (of course) East divisions. No NFC West team owners agreed with this lesser faction from their same conference.

Just speculating but I would guess the chances are greater for two of the seven AFC team owners may eventually flip rather than Gayle Benson or Sheila Ford Hamp. Maybe both share a strong affinity with Jeffrey Lurie.

It was closer than I thought. 17-15. It's getting closer. I would love to hear the rationale on both sides. I am against any assistance to the runner from his teammates other than blocking the opposing team. We are starting to see runner literally hoisted in the air as well as being pulled forward. These plays are already illegal and the refs are not calling it. To help the refs ban all forms of runner assistance and make it an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

It was 22-10. They needed 24 votes and thus fell 2 short.

Let's see how real this League really is.

This play, if all is real, should have huge effects on the viewing pleasure of the game.

Less suspense is a big factor.

But OCs, if this is real, should be able to exploit the defense with fakes off this formation.

If the defense is forced to protect against a chunk yardage play, this play becomes a shoe in for a first down on short yardage downs.

Should have huge effects on the game with less punting and longer drives for offenses.

Personally think the play stretches defenses to thin, they can't commit to stopping the tush-push because they have to protect the whole field.

Let's see how this plays out.

Honestly, need to find a way to injure players, QB in particular, who do the Tush Push. Either that or just offside it every single time even if it means all the way to the goal line and score. See if the NFL likes the new game of football
That’s what I said too.

If I’m a defensive player I’m dropping an elbow on the QB’s head or something.

I'm quite surprised that the vote failed - ha, ha Roger Goodell. You went about this in a slimy way and, in the end, didn't get what you wanted, a rarity.

If he'd have been more honest in his public reasoning for why he wanted it banned and made a case based on 4th & short situations being a place where the NFL wants suspense and not a surefire win for the offense, I think he might have convinced a few more owners to vote for the ban. But as he went about making his case through proxies and based on false premises over the last few months, I bet some owners didn't like the way that came off and saw it as just targeting one team's innovation and success. That's a bad look for the league.
He wanted it banned because analytics, most likely. The fans don't really like it.

No need to ban it. Learn to stop it or beat them on the first 3 downs to keep them out of 4th and short.
