News: Proposal to ban tush push FAILS by two votes, sources say

So.... Having no experience and hence no clue doesn't stop you from making conclusive statements on the very thing you have no experience with and no clue about.

Sounds about right.
I said nothing about that era you are the one who brought up Roger. I said eliminating things like spiked passes would hurt the game in 2025. You brought up the past when it didn’t exist as if that changes my stance on that. So yeah sounds like you’re the one with no clue and suffering from yesterdayism.

What's interesting is the NFL's competition and health and safety committees voted to ban the Tush Push. How do you keep a play after your own Healthy and Safety Committee recommends banning it?
The H&S committee has no actual data showing that the play is unsafe.

Plays and techniques that have actual data proving that the play or technique is unsafe have been banned in the past. If such data shows itself, the play will be banned. No such data exists.

Those committees are made up of owners. Perhaps the votes were not unanimous in those committees. And the owners in those committees have the same bias when they’re not voting in committee. Eight of nine teams that did not vote for the proposal do not play the Eagles this year. It makes no sense to hand other teams any advantage when your team gains nothing.

The safety committee support of the proposal was probably laughed at by all 32 ownership groups. If they eliminate plays that have not caused injury, but not plays that have, very hypocritical. Slippery slope. Start eliminating dangerous plays there would be not football at all.

That's exactly it - Roger Goodell was incredibly foolish to make his case based on the safety/injuries argument when there is no hard evidence whatsoever that the play is a safety risk and creates more injuries than any other play. He (and some owners) have other reasons they want to ban it and they might as well just be honest about that. It's going to look petty regardless, but at least be honest.

Well said.

I think the fans should vote on it like they do with the Pro Bowl, each year.

That way, depending on how it impacts each team, teams' fans get a reactionary vote to change it for the next year.

A Tush Push referendum would be a way to keep fans engaged with NFL content.

Cast your ballots in the annual Tush Push vote.

No taxation without representation.

I think anyone would admit watching offensive players pushing other offensive players for decades--especially those individuals who were witnesses. I had been seeing that happen myself when it occasionally happened. And sometimes when it occasionally happened? Players did it in the heat of the moment.

The tush push is a designed play. It is performed deliberately. And often multiple times every game.

So, let's be transparently honest. There is a simple reason why there has never been an uproar, neither finite nor long-term, over offensive players pushing other offensive players during a CENTURY of the National Football League games until the past few years.
OCCASIONALLY happened? OCCASIONALLY?

oh come on now. You know, as does everyone, it wasn't OCCASIONALLY happening.... every team was doing it every game.

Stop it. Thats just flat out making stuff up. You'll feel better if you are honest...just say it: "I want this banned, because they can do this 1 play far better than anyone else. Dallas can't do it. It's a huge advantage....so I want it banned"

It's not that hard just to be honest

You KNOW if Philly was doing this play all the time, but they sucked at it, nobody would give a rip about it. They only care because they're good at it. YOU only care because they're good at it.

Just be honest!

Your side stepping my main point and trying to distract by talking about something else...

Main point is...tush push COULD HAVE(if this is real)some serious implications on the game.

I'd you don't care about that, and think sports is dun watching shoe in plays...that's fine...just say it.

I'm not into Monopolies when it comes to sports. I prefer parity.

In this sense...once this play is perfected by all teams...the defense can't defend it...a monopoly play for the offense
So you're saying this play should be kept legal until ALL teams perfect it? (After all...so far the only evidence is that only 1 of the 32 teans has perfected it...despite trying for 3 years)

But before that...keep it legal?

And perhaps focuse on OTHER plays that are already perfected by every team that's impossible for the defense to defend? I.e. when a team with a lead has the ball, 2 min left, and the other team has no timeouts, the offense can just take a knee and burn the rest of the game without trying to advance the ball, making the last 2 minutes meaningles? Every single team has mastered that....and it's impossible for the defense to stop them from just taking a knee on 3 successive plays. Ban it?

It's a good comeback with an example...but the scenario you provided is an end game situation. Once a game, when the defense allowed a first down with no timeouts left...nothing else you can do.

The tush push could be used every possession to shoe-in first downs on short yardage plays or shoe-in touchdowns.

Keep in mind, I have protected myself in this thread. I have provided wording such as 'if this is real' numerous times. Why? Because I agree with you that its weird no other teams are mimicking the play the way Philly does it. Weird.

You could put a strong lower body running back at QB and two 2nd string lineman as runningbacks and run this play. But why hasn't that happened? Weird.

Which goes back to my original argument...if this is real...OCs can scheme chunk yardage plays off the formation with fakes. Defense will have to commit to stopping the first down or stopping a potential touchdown. We know they will give up the first down to protect against a TD.

Again, it comes down to the league, if they perfect it, becoming 2 downs to get 8 or 9 yards and then a shoe-in first down on the short yardage play.

And that's every possession...not just some end game situation.

If it gets out of hand and changes the game in a negative way...they should just write a simple rule with simple wording...NO ASSISTING THE BALL CARRIER BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE

Again...this is only if it becomes a monopoly for the offense.

I can't be more clear or fair than that. If you can't envision a defense being stretched thin with this play, or are into sports being a monopoly...there is nothing else to really discuss

Want to know something particularly interesting about the vote?

The #2 team who use the tush push is the Bills, and they voted to ban it.

Just found that interesting.

But ur saying only do this banning/rule change when this type of play becomes commonly mastered by every team? (Or at least the majority?)

(Or at least by a handful?)

(Or at least by 2 or 3?l

Is it just me, or do all of the Eagles related threads bring a lot of posters out of the woodwork with very very strong pro Eagles opinions…

I'm not a huge fan of it, as I can see what should happen if all this is real.

It hasn't changed the game too much thus far...so I side with keeping it for now.

Oh well. I tried.
