How important is QB running ability for the running game/offense?

I argue that it has a tremendous effect on YPC when an offense has the opposing defense’s respect/attention at the handoff point in guessing who might run with the ball. Obviously, a robust passing offense can assist with hesitation at this point-but the threat of a QB who has good/great mobility seems like the X factor in so many games now.

Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, etc can all scoot when necessary and it creates so much chaos for an opposing defense. The Eagles did a lot of passing to win the SB game, but I thought some of the most back breaking plays came when Hurts realized it was time to run it himself and scrambled away from pressure for big first downs (when the receivers were well covered). KC’s team looked defeated after one of those plays. What say you?

Look at who has rings. How many of them are mobile like you want?

I am of the mindse that a player like a Montana that can scramble and if necessary get vital yards is about the best you can get. Like Staubach. Elway. Passers first who can run if they have to.
NOT a running QB

I don’t mean that an offense cannot function well without a QB that has great running ability. I would argue that every QB needs decent mobility just to keep a defense honest. Joe Burrow can scramble occasionally. I meant in terms of how it affects an offense’s run game-how much does it augment it.

Well that was then, this is now. A QB has to have at least some mobility in today’s…unless everything else is just perfect. I used to share your viewpoint, but times have changed. Mahomes is pretty damn mobile

Brady has how many rings vs Jackson
I could go on

Then go on… I already know all about Brady. I’m not talking about what was, I’m talking about the current trend in the league. The guys that are actually playing now. How many statues do you actually see playing in the position these days? Goff?, Stafford?, That’s really about it… Unless you want to include Dak… who might be considered a statue going forward…

Pretty much every other QB, has some mobility…
