Quick look at Toia

He was voted team MVP at a post season banquet. 2923-2024 UCLA allowed less than 95 yards per game rushing with average of 2.3 yards per carry. Jays ability to demand 2 players blocking him due to his quick get off, size, strength and awareness was a large part of that, he kept the LB clean.

Big hopes for big fella, DT is slowest to develop but by year 2 he could be giving you significant snaps. In 7th round you're drafting traits, he has them in spades.

This pick is exactly why I don't understand why fans were pushing for DT with 12, especially after we signed Osa. It appears Mazi has the other job locked down. We needed a run plugger with two jobs: stop the run and keep LBers clean. So this is my fav pick behind Booker ..........

Impressive stat line. I mean, we gotta hit on one of these guys, eventually... Right? Not necessarily, I guess, but law of averages keeps improving chances.

Great post.

+1 .....I'm trying real hard to contain my excitement for this kid.

Trash Can full of dirt ... angrily hold your ground against anyone of a different jersey. Anyone!
Exactly. Really all we need him to do is to hold his ground, not get moved back. That allows our other guys to do their jobs better. Problem has been anyone we have playing DT is very inconsistent, feast or famine. This dude will have an opportunity to earn a role early. He and Justin Rogers are about 680 pounds combined. That is some beef inside the hashes.

I am not sure if you're serious but if the Cowboys had taken both DTs Grant at 12 and Jordan Phillips in the 5th, (both of the Dolphins picks) this defense would have been set for years.
This was the draft to do just that.

All the other current Cowboy 2nd and 3rd line of defense question marks would have been greatly lessened based off a first line of incredibly serious talent. Those were the 2 impactful trench warriors to shore it all up.

Mazi and Odiggy or Toia, Akingbesote and Thomas for that matter, are not in the same neighborhood talent wise as those DTs.

C'mon. The weapon for war and fights is a football.

Our Dline would have looked like

Parsons ..........$40M
Osa..................$20
Fowlers............$10M
Mazi.................1st round pick
Grant................1st round pick
Kneeland .........2nd round pick
Sam Williams ...2nd round pick

A lot of resources in one unit...........remember the only reason we are looking for another interior Dline was Osa and Mazi are average to poor run defenders. Osa is a top 10 pressure guy. So we would have used 12 to plug the run issue.

Yep, pretty much exactly my point as our world champion division rivals continue fortifying their defense through the draft while our offense has quite the draft and contract investment already in place along with Smith and possibly Pickens to follow.

I wouldn’t have been against it. Especially since the alternative would’ve been to spend another first on a guard.
