In the Bosch series, Harry Bosch had this really nice house in the hills around LA with a great view from his mostly glass exterior. It was explained early on how he afforded such an expensive abode. Ballard has a nice little house on the beach, which would cost millions today. They don't explain in the first episode how she wound up in such a nice pace on a cop's salary. If you remember Mel Gibson had a mobile home on the beach in Lethal Weapon 2 which was more like a cops accommodations if you ignore the value of the property itself. .

If not for the connection to Bosch, I would probably not watch Ballard. Since I started it I will finish this season and see if it improves. Right now it is ordinary at best.

LOL. The beach house for a cop who likes to surf in her off-time sort of lost me too. LOL. These Hollywood folks just don't live in reality anymore.

This is definitely on my watch list, and not just because I like the Aliens franchise. I like how they get into the corporate drama which I think is highly realistic to how the future might pan out. And the guy who made it is the same one who brought winners like Fargo to a good TV series. He's the right touch for someone who seems like he will make this different than the other failed attempts to bring life to the franchise.

Had what I would call "ok reviews" at Rotten Tomatoes.

I'm getting Netflix back this week just to watch it and the new Dallas Cowboys documentary.
 
I finished season 1 of Ballard on Netflix. This is a spinoff of Bosch and Bosch Legacy even though the main character, Ballard, only appeared in 1 episode of Bosch. I already posted something about the casting for this show being poor. That plays out pretty much for the rest of the show. Maggie Q seems nice, but the wrong actress to play Ballard. And why do all the women in the show have to be victims of something? Ballard herself is the cliché great detective harboring some deep feeling about her dead father. It's annoying after a while.

Its the same basic theme as Bosch. Ballard is a single woman and a detective for the LAPD. She accused another cop for assaulting her so she was given a penalty box job of solving cold cases The main case is the murder of the little sister of a city councilman. It's 10 episodes of pretty standard cops and bad guys, with the main mystery being the case of the councilman's daughter.

If you don't want to read the spoilers for more details I will cut to the chase. You know that flatulence sound a balloon makes when you let the air out and it flies around the room? If you listen carefully, episode 9 makes that sound, or maybe its the sound of a butthole laughing. Probably the latter.

They bring Bosch back for a couple of episodes, along with J Edgar and a few Bosch characters and those might be the better scenes in the show. Although Titus Welliver, the actor who plays Bosch, looks disinterested in propping this pile a manure up.

The series follows the investigation of what turns out to be a serial killer. For 8 1/2 episodes, we follow Ballard and her volunteer team as they follow promising leads to dead ends. In episode 9 we finally find out the identity of the serial killer. and that is when the balloon deflates.

This is the spoiler in the spoiler so if you plan on watching stop reading here.

After 25 years Ballard discovers there is a survivor of an attack by our serial killer that occurred in 2000, 25 years ago. The woman was attacked and left for dead but the killer didn't know she survived. She is able to eventually identify the killer and the killer is... the councilman's father! I bet the writers thought this was a brilliant twist. But its stupid. Really stupid. In fact it is so stupid we find out shortly afterwards that the murdered girl, 1 of 14 dead women, was not the biological daughter of the father. She was the result of an affair that mother had! This is how they explain how her DNA did not come up with a partial match with the killer's DNA which they lifted off a palm print in the girls room. It's almost as if they wrote the show and someone told them about familial DNA. That's when the writers had a light bulb go on - to make her the result of an affair he mother had.

Had they come up with something more clever, and a more clever way to find the killer the show might have been passable. But once you find out who the killer is, you realize the show is just drivel.

I understand there is supposed to be a season 2 because season 1 ends with something of a cliff hanger. Our brilliant detective Ballard walks right into trouble. I also understand we will see more Harry Bosch in the next season, if there is one. That's good because if Bosch's Legacy is Ballard, that is not a positive thing.
 
War of the Worlds - Prime - entire different take on the book, starring Ice Cube

I'm guessing the budget was about $100 dollars (and that was spent on Ice Cube) - almost the entire movie is shown through some type of live streaming/voice chat platform.
2/10 - interesting concept but something like War of the Worlds is way to big to handle this way.

Kinda had the feel of a cut scene for a video game back in the day - think Command and Conquer series....except it was made into a movie.
 
Man, just watched American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden

Highly recommend it. It’s just three episodes long. We all know how it ends but this really fills in the detail and color of how it all unfolded.

The third episode was especially riveting from start to finish.
 
Untamed, Netflix: This was okay. It is a who-done-it that takes place in the wilderness of a national park. It stars Eric Bana with Sam Neil in a supporting role. It's okay. The park is beautiful, of course. The story is not bad. Not too much to complain about. It doesn't pop off the screen, but it doesn't make me yell at the screen either. I give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

The Sandman season 2, Netflix - I turned it off mid-way through episode 4. I have had enough of Netflix gibberish. The main character is boring. The show is boring. It is also silly. I am guessing the writers think they had some kind of ingenious story with this show but I found it to be absolute drivel. It's like if you asked a classroom full of 5 year old kids to make up a story you'd get something like season 2 of The Sandman. "And then....and then....and then...." and on and on. I have no idea where this story is going but the good news is I don't really care. Season 2 gets 2 out of 10, and that might be a bit generous.

The Bear - FX - Disney+/Hulu

10/10

I have absolutely loved this series. Pure family chaos, which makes the moments of calm that much more meaningful. The various arcs of the characters is brilliantly done.

My only complaint is that Syd throws me off a little as she just looks so young....but maybe that's what they were going for.

I kinda liked season 1. But I can definitely see where it might go off the rails.

Season Two of Twisted Metal is on. This is a fun watch. Go into it with the right frame of mind and you should like it.

What's the deal wit Wednesday? They dropped 4 episodes now and more are coming in September? I want to watch the show but I will wait until every episode is out before I start it.
