Does Dallas Need to Rework Dak's Contract to Sign Parsons?

I hate to start another thread about Dak, Parsons and contracts. It's the topic I despise the most..

I'll try to keep it somewhat short and simple...

Could part of Jerry's hesitation to sign Parsons to a mega deal be because he's looking at Dak to rework his contract to free up some money for Parsons?

Say what you want about how bad this team is, or whatever some of our fans insist.

I disagree. We've got a lot of talent throughout this roster. If we tie up too much money in one player, on another record contract, how do we keep the talent we have?

I'm not a cap expert, so fill me in. Does signing Parsons present that kind of dilemma?

Can we sign Parsons and keep players like Tyler Smith, Bland, Pickens, et cetera?

Dak said he'd give up money, and be broke, if he could win. Would Dak ve willing to rework his contract?

I think a big part of the problem has been Parsons' lackluster performance in the post season. Like someone said earlier today, he tends to wear down some come playoff time. And refuses to come off the field to preserve himself for the post season.

Dallas can sign all of their big names and be perfectly fine. It’s the way that Jerry goes about it that puts him in cap trouble, and then he blames cap trouble for the way he goes about it.

If there is one thing worse than paying a rush LB 40 million, it is to extend an average QB at elite price to do that

I don't believe this year's cap hit is any consideration in the decision to sign or not to sign.

Parsons would receive a large signing bonus which could be spread over the length of the contract for cap purposes. The contract could then be structured to be paid out with consideration to when it hits the cap and also with a mind for repeating that process down the road with subsequent restructures/signing bonus conversions.

Easier way yo say it, if it's true, Jerry has too many high dollar contracts at a given time compared to other teams.

No clue how true that is, but could see it causing some sort of crunch on quality depth.

Micah is on his 5th year option for $24 million. So there is no reason they can't sign him to an extension. The number this year would likely drop with one.

Right. I'm not up to speed on how the cap works. I just don't find it interesting. But I'm trying to figure out how they do this. They could pay Parsons $40 million plus, and he gets injured or doesn't perform like a $40 million player.

Of course, I want him on the team. But not at the expense of losing the other base players who make this team competitive year after year.

So, how serious is Dak about giving up money to win? Does he think Parsons would help achieve his goal and how much is it worth to him to have him on the defense as a leader?

Of course they can, but does that leave less money necessary to sign our other elite players like Smith, Pickens, Bland, etcetera? What about Beebe down the line? Other players I'm probably forgetting?

Nope….people keep forgetting. Parsons is signed through this year, so if he doesn’t want to take what the Cowboys offer, he can wait till next offseason. There is no rush to sign him because he will be playing on Sundays anyway.

If so, damned if I know.

Possibilities could be but not limited to:
Jones drawing it out for attention.
Jones choosing to wait before handing out a huge lump sum for
financial/investment reasons.
Jones, knowing they own Parsons for at least two more seasons, flexing their "power".
Team Parsons dragging their feet to play the market.
Ongoing haggling over terms.

Jerry alluded to all of these possibilities in the PC. Except for the first and third possibilities, of course. lol

We will never know what lurks behind that curtain.

You can sign anyone you want with how you make the cap work. You can use a signing bonus to backload the contract, and then you can use void years to make those backend years not have a huge cap hit. Sure the bill eventually comes due but you can sign a lot of elite talent for 5 years and then be bad for a year and do it again.
