This is where we disagree .........Jerry is held to a higher standard. He should have made clear to Parsons ( or any of his players ) let's see what your agent says and go from there—NOT trying to finalize a deal off verbal numbers. Can you imagine the chaos if this were standard practice among ALL owners and players?

As an aside. Handshake deals do count in the court of law if they can be proven.

When we drafted Parsons, I was overjoyed. I loved the pick and for a while there I thought we should build around the guy!! I thought he was a true Cowboy. A true Cowboy!! You're suggesting a radical change. Most unions don't deal with individuals, so it's easy to negotiate a contract since most get paid the same with unions. How would the NFLPA go about this? But like I said before, you need member support to make any change. The union doesn't do it without member support. So if the rank and file, almost homeless players of the NFL don't choose to strike, there's nothing that can be done.

Rank and file players include practice squad players who still make good money comparative to the mailman but certainly not $950K and they are in no position to strike.

I'm not suggesting the player's union negotiate individual contracts. I'm saying it sets paygrades which is very common in unions. A worker at paygrade 11 who has been working 5 years makes X dollars period. The player's union already does it with rookie contracts based on draft position. A player on a rookie deal who meets certain benchmarks earns X on the next contract. The NBA, albeit fewer players on a team, does it with max deals and supermax deals and the like.

That's fine if players want to negotiate their own value but then get rid of the salary cap.

Yeah, that would be the right thing to do. But If I put myself in his position, I'm going to want to minimize the chance I get injured. Because we're talking the difference of 24M, and a possible 150-200M. How much risk would you take?

If I'm Parsons, this is what I do. I don't show up to play until either week 10 or 11. I forget what the deadline is. Then if they tag me, I sign the tag if it's non-exclusive. The only way I sign an exclusive tag is to be traded. After that year you're free.

Are you talking about next year? The tag isn’t in play for this one, they picked up his fifth year option.

He makes 24 million this year, or a million and a half a game. Yes…it’s either week ten or eleven that he has to show up for to get service time credit for the season, so he would forfeit 15 of the 24 million in game checks, plus fines. At 50k a day, he will about break even for the season.

If it comes to that he is definitely getting tagged for next year and he is in the same situation. That’s no plan on his end, but doesn’t work on managements end either.

If this hasnt been resolved by then and they allow this to cloud the organization they are all dumber than I thought….and also why it will eventually be resolved by week two worst case.

They need to sign him or trade him, but can’t let it get to a tag situation. Jerry probably figured he is getting beat by Philly in week one and definitely winning vs NY in week two, and has already compared this to the Emmitt situation.

I don't know how much Jerry has offered Parsons, but I don't think that Jerry and the agent will agree on a number.I think Parsons needs to change agents and restart negotiations. I hope Micah gets extended, Dallas needs Parsons on the field with this nice core of pass rushers.Having Parsons here makes this unit better and less predictable,because he can be used rushing from the linebacker position and at DE.

They don't need practice squad players to go on strike. Don't even include them. Just use the bottom rung players on the team making 950k and up. They can call a strike if need be. There is by far enough of them. They won't, because they don't want to lose that big paycheck.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you. I told you, I've been in unions since 1987. I'm very much pro union. But you need member support. Are they supposed to act unwelcomed? They can't do that.

A dime a dozen union member is more likely to go on strike because in many cases it's about survival. An NFL player making much more is much less likely to go on strike because it's not about survival, it's about bling.

Free country. You can judge, and then 1A says you get to tell everyone how you judged.

Ownership is in a position that all of us fans can and should actually appreciate, given that the sport abides by a CBA that demands a hard cap on salaries. To the degree that they are able to limit salaries, they are better able to maneuver to maximize talent on the roster. That's a good thing, selfishly, for us fans. We should commend ownership for that effort.

The player is in a position that all of us common Joes and Janes who work for a living for an employer can and should actually appreciate, which is that everyone should work out the most beneficial compensation from their employer as they possibly can... because... that, in turn, justifies my own doing that same thing. To not commend the player for that effort is to demand "rules for thee, but not for me." And that's just inherently obtuse and selfish thinking. We should commend the player for that effort.

This is a process. Sure, people like having something to talk about, we all get that. But none of the talk matters. Neither side is wrong to pursue what they're pursuing. Neither side is a disappointment... except I suppose, for those who can't accept that and feel they need to so take a side and publicly disparage.
