Detailed Milton nugget from QB coach Shimko

Oh boy…Milton is better than 2016 Dak? At what? You guys forget now Dak carries MS in college without any nfl talent on offense. He’s one of the best SEC QBs of all time.
Milton is definitely better at throwing than Dak.

Thats to start. lol.

Milton with the right coaching (not saying he will get that in Dallas either) can be a high end starter in this league. He has the arm strength, ability, and attitude to do so.

It is a matter of putting it all together.

You put Milton on that 2016 Cowboys team with prime Zeke and we probably finish the same way we did.

I would be beyond surprised to see Milton play at the level. Dak did his rookie season if he had to play due to injury. This team isn’t nearly as good as the 2016 team. We’re not going to have the running game we did in 2016. If Milton was much better than Dak coming out of college, he would’ve been drafted higher than the sixth round. Most had Dak ranked higher than the fourth round, but he had a DUI which is why some believe he fell in the draft. If Milton was what you think he is, New England would have kept him.

The jury is still out on Drake Maye. It’s not like he had a great rookie season. When Dak’s days are over it’s likely going to take a high draft pick to replace him. If Milton plays this season as a starter it’s because of injury. The only other way he’ll get on the field is if the Cowboys use him as a situational QB. I’m giving you the reality of the situation. No one is going to pay Pickens WR1 money unless he has a 1200+ yard season and is a model citizen. The Cowboys certainly won’t be able to afford to pay him WR1 money.
Exactly why I like the move for Milton more.

Nothing Pickens has said or done since he entered the league leads me to believe he will take less than some stupid team will offer to stay in Dallas.

I’m having a tough time seeing it from your perspective. I’m looking at what Pickens can do with this team paired with CeeDee. They’ve been as advertised from the training camp reports. They’re looking like a dynamic duo. This is the best one-two punch at WR the Cowboys have had in years. The addition of Pickens is the one move that has fans excited about this season.

As for Milton the reports are his accuracy problems are continuing. That’s been one of the big knocks on him. Sounds to me like you’re one of those that’s hoping Milton takes over for Dak sooner rather than later. You were probably pretty excited about the move for Trey Lance.

Hated Lance. And the compensation considering he never played. Even when Dak got hurt.

Milton seems to be a lot different than Lance. Dak has had issues with accuracy to which were corrected over time.

Again. My reasoning is Pickens probably pricing himself out of Dallas

Yeah that’s cap lol.

Hes better throwing? The whole knock on Milton is he can’t throw accurate lol.

Milton with the right coaching can be a high end starter…..meanwhile Dak came in with Jason Garrett and Scott Linehan and no one would confuse them with the “right coaching”….

If the league felt the way you did about Milton he would be starting over Maye and wouldn’t have been a 6th rounder.

And I like Milton’s potential. But I hope you haves have patience and grace for him and not want to run him out like Lance after he throws picks.

Lance not playing has more to do with Cowboys incompetence than him. He should’ve played…

Milton’s been inaccurate his whole career. The fact that you don’t know this and believe that he’s a better passer than Dak is mind boggling and entertaining.

Okay, so you feel Pickens could be gone after this season. There’s no assurances Milton will be around very long. Mike White, DiNucci and Lance weren’t around very long. Let’s say Milton wins the backup job and has to play due to an injury to Dak. If he doesn’t play well, we’ll be looking for another backup next off season. What kept Cooper Rush around so long was winning games with him. I have a tough time getting more excited about a backup QB than a starting WR who could really elevate our passing attack.

I believe if Pickens has a great year and is a model citizen we’ll be able to work out a contract extension with him because he’s a young player. You don’t see Jerry Jones moving on from a player who has a great year because he can’t afford to pay him. He’s only done it once with DeMarco Murray because he was an RB. He felt after a huge season Murray was about to hit the wall and he did. Plus Murray had injury issues prior to that big season.

Did i say passing?

I said throwing. I am talking about arm strength. Dak wasnt as accurate as he is now either. He learned and got much better with his footwork.

That is all I am saying. The tools are there for Milton. That is all.

My gosh you guys run to defend a guy who doesnt know you exist. I am simply stating Milton can throw the ball hard and far. Hence why i said throwing and not passing. They are 2 different things. At least to me.

Please see above. And definitely have patience. I dont think any Cowboys fan is impatient. I mean. 30 years bro lol.

Man for the life of me I will never understand it.
I feel the Cooper Rush thing was MM thing. Not sure why, but it felt like it was driven by MM.

Maybe the thought was we had a SuperBowl worthy team so they needed a bus driver behind Dak to preserve the spot in the playoffs.

Obviously we now know what the results of our team talent in the playoffs. Would it have made a difference in developing another player who could have actually challenged Dak at the backup position? Who knows?

Would it have mattered given the poor performance of the defence in the run game during playoff time?

No it was a Jerry thing. They said it multiple times. They wanted to win.

Why? that is the question lol.
